Thread Title: "What do you think?"
AuctionArmsCeo What do you think of the Auction Arms forums? We thought about this question for a long time before coming to the conclusion that we needed to write our own forum in-house. The problem is that integrating someone else's discussion software was just as complicated as writing it from scratch - and we had a few requirements that absolutely had to be met before we would have something like a forum at Auction Arms.

carbob - Thanks for your grammar correction and explanation of sole proprietorship for those, other than myself, who may not know the correct definition of such.

Bubba, if I could add a 2 cent worth here as far as a buyer is concerned. I am only on this site to buy guns. That is actually what it is for. As long as I can do so, I will.

I also use this site from time to time for buying as well. However, if issues, such as the infringement of unwanted displays in the ads of sellers, causes the sellers to market their wares elsewhere, then there will be fewer items to buy here.

As far as the adds or other paraphanalia on the pages I am on here, they go unnoticed. Like tv commercials. The adds are everywhere in society no matter what public media one is watching, be it computer, TV, or live events even. Look at NASCAR.

This is very true. However, I record most of my favorite shows and fast forward through the commercials. My real point is that if the site wants to have ads of their paid sponsors on a page, it should not be in the middle of a ad which the seller has, or will eventually pay for. To me doing so is a huge distraction for many people who are looking at the item listed for sale. If one has tunnel vision, this may not be the case. Have you noticed the many empty seats at NASCAR events in recent years? Could this be a result of their poor marketing stragety? I think this could be a large part of the cause.

As far as the politics of this particular site, I couldn't care less. I guess what I am saying is that sellers dont fret the adds too much, most (or all) arent even seen or payed attention to.

Some sellers may not be concerned, or bothered, with seeing other entities ads in the middle of their ads, however, it is a very large issue for me personally. My ad is my ad and I do not want to see someone else leeching off of my dime. Simply put again. Place the sponcers ads outside of the sellers ads content.

When driving down the highway and looking at the scenery and a billboard comes up , it will pass basically unnoticed. True, the adds shouldnt be over top a sellers item as that would be an invasion of personal (paid for) space.

I am pleased that we can agree on this point.

Bottom line is, I want to buy guns and I can here. As long as this is an auction site then the prices cant be affected by what goes on here but by bids. Just my take, Thanks

Fewer sellers = fewer bids. This could possibly be good for the bidders, but very bad for the sellers.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts & feelings. They are very important to the entire scheme of things, even if you & I don't quite see eye to eye on some issues.

I am a strong supporter of a capitalistic society where if one works and EARNS some type of compensation, then it belongs to them entirely. Of course this compensation would be subject to local, state & federal taxes being deducted.

Really? Um, does anyone else see the complete contradiction in these statements? How did the governemnt pay for itself before it taxed earnings of the individual, individual income tax?

I can see where this statement could be construed to be contradictory by some. However, I was just trying to make a point. Humanity has been taxed in some shape or form all through history. Paying a fair tax is a part of life in this country as well as others. However, being forced to share the remaining proceeds with others who do not contribute by working for their wealth is how a socialistic society is managed.

Does anyone know where, or more to the point from whom the term "Capitalism" came from.

Since we live in a country which is based on capitalism, please enlighten us.

I suggest reading his work and comparing it to the work of Adam Smith.

The thoughts and opinions of one person does not necessarily form the mold for a entire society. That is unless ones name is Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, or any other mentally challenged dictator.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts & feelings. I find it extremely interesting to see how the minds of others work and how they happen to think.

carbob - Post #62 - No problem. Many times, the Dunce hat hides pure brilliance. Take Mother Nature for instance. Many of her creatures are given disguises that make them look like something else entirely, while at the same time, making them members of the top section of the food chain.

In life, many, many things are not what they seem to be.

I did not construe a contradiction. That statement is a contradiction of itself. You are saying that what you earn is yours, except that portion everyone else says isn't. How does that make sense? No amount of logical rationalisation can make it so.

Now, our "fair share" of taxes go towards charity. We ARE being forced to share the fruits of our labor  with others who do not contribute by working for their wealth. We are paying for food stamps and section 8 housing. Sorry, but that is taking from us, forcefully, to give to them. This fair tax or fair share crap is insulting. You are right that humanity has been taxed in one form or another through out recorded history. Taxes are the price of living in a society with a strong enough government to keep the piece and protect individual rights. The mere fact that it is forefully taking from us to help others is a sign of a broken government in a messed up society. If I want to help my neighbor, I will in my own way. As it is, the governemnt taxes me, tells me it is to help my neighbor, thus I don't feel the need to help my neighbor anymore because the government is doing it.

Since we live in a country which is based on capitalism, please enlighten us.

If I told you Marx coined the phrase capitalism, what would that tell you? Why would we be using his terminology when he was not from here, and completely against what the founding of this country was about? Your arrogance and ignorance are showing.

Any idea who Adam Smith is? Ever heard of the book The Wealth of Nations? Where the idea of a free market was published. It discusses how the invisible hand in the free market makes corrections when the economy becomes unhealthy. It provided a blueprint for the original US economy that became the wealthiest economy in the history of man in far less time than any other economy. You know, before the government got involved and changed it to a socialistic economy where central planning picks winners and losers; what we have now, where we are all taxed in every manner plausible from income, sales, sin, and even inflation tax. The economy we have to day is not what this country was designed upon.

The thoughts and opinions of one person does not necessarily form the mold for a entire society. That is unless ones name is Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, or any other mentally challenged dictator.

You don't know your history do you. Stalin followed Marx's teachings to create communism. Adam Smith's teachings where heavily applied to the creation of our nation's original economy , which in turn molded our society. You are right about Hitler, he followed his own teachings.
