Thread Title: "What do you think?"
AuctionArmsCeo What do you think of the Auction Arms forums? We thought about this question for a long time before coming to the conclusion that we needed to write our own forum in-house. The problem is that integrating someone else's discussion software was just as complicated as writing it from scratch - and we had a few requirements that absolutely had to be met before we would have something like a forum at Auction Arms.

Sorry Manny, I allowed myself to get sidetracked and we have hijacked your thread. My apologies.

I do like the manner in which the forum is working. There seems to be a problem with the Popular Threads section, however, as it will sometimes be there and sometimes won't be there. I was thinking about e-mails to let us know about posts to threads we are taking part in, however, after recieving e-mails everytime my proxy bid is increased, I can see how that could get annoying.

I did not construe a contradiction. That statement is a contradiction of itself. You are saying that what you earn is yours, except that portion everyone else says isn't. How does that make sense? No amount of logical rationalisation can make it so.

It depends on your personal view of my statements. Personally the only misconception of anything that I may have stated is on your part.

Now, our "fair share" of taxes go towards charity. We ARE being forced to share the fruits of our labor  with others who do not contribute by working for their wealth.  We are paying for food stamps and section 8 housing. Sorry, but that is taking from us, forcefully, to give to them. This fair tax or fair share crap is insulting. You are right that humanity has been taxed in one form or another through out recorded history. Taxes are the price of living in a society with a strong enough government to keep the piece and protect individual rights. The mere fact that it is forefully taking from us to help others is a sign of a broken government in a messed up society. If I want to help my neighbor, I will in my own way. As it is, the governemnt taxes me, tells me it is to help my neighbor, thus I don't feel the need to help my neighbor anymore because the government is doing it.

Maybe you should consider moving to another country where the peace and individual rights are not so well protected as here in the USA and the military is more likely to kill you than protect you. I gladly pay my taxes for this type of return.

Your last statement is a real cop out. Something that a liberal would possibly say.

If I told you Marx coined the phrase capitalism, what would that tell you? Why would we be using his terminology when he was not from here, and completely against what the founding of this country was about? Your arrogance and ignorance are showing.

Here again, you may consider relocating to a country where capitalism does not exist. It seems to be working very well here in the USA regardless who coined the phrase. Which by the way, could have had a completely different meaning in Carl Marx's day & time.

Any idea who Adam Smith is? Ever heard of the book The Wealth of Nations? Where the idea of a free market was published. It discusses how the invisible hand in the free market makes corrections when the economy becomes unhealthy. It provided a blueprint for the original US economy that became the wealthiest economy in the history of man in far less time than any other economy. You know, before the government got involved and changed it to a socialistic economy where central planning picks winners and losers; what we have now, where we are all taxed in every manner plausible from income, sales, sin, and even inflation tax. The economy we have to day is not what this country was designed upon.

Without taxation of some sorts please explain how the infrastructure of this country would survive and prosper? Are you possibly one of the 99%'ers or maybe consider the Occupy Wall Street movement a positive move for this country?

You don't know your history do you. Stalin followed Marx's teachings to create communism. Adam Smith's teachings where heavily applied to the creation of our nation's original economy , which in turn molded our society. You are right about Hitler, he followed his own teachings.

I suppose with no form of taxation either.

And yes, history is one of my more read subjects. I normally deal in reality and avoid the hypothetical ramblings and teachings of the less educated and improperly informed who delve in the world of "what if" .

Speaking of "you shoulds", learning to use spell check may help make your presentations and preposterous ramblings a bit more easier to read and understand.

At this point, we must agree to disagree regarding these matters for I feel that you have gotten your panties wound up in a very tight wad over some trivial differences regarding how we fail to see eye to eye on certain subjects and issues. To my knowledge my peers and constituents do not consider me to be the least bit ignorant, and maybe a tad arrogant at times when I am in a mental conflict with a unarmed adversary. So for now and in the future I will gladly continue to pay my taxes and enjoy all of the freedoms which our Constitution provides us as well as the protection that our military, law enforcement, and other public services which are largely funded by our tax dollars do as well. I hope that you can do th same. My contribution to this discussion has ended.

Bubba J - Just referring back to #55 again;

"What gives me severe heart burn about this is the fact that EVERYONE is not playing on a level field. As the old saying goes, "What's good for the goose, is good for the gander". I strongly oppose preferential treatment to some and not all."

That is exactly what I mean about brainwashing. The idea of a level playing field in business is erroneous, or a fallacy or a misconception, or sumptin'. Undecided

- If you have a long time customer that buys in bulk, by the pallet, or by the gross or in very large quantities; are you going to give that same price to the guy who walks in wanting to buy onezy-twozy??

Somehow people have been "re-educated" to think that the evil business owner must give back value that the customer has not earned. - Volume pricing is just one example. And here at AA/GA that MAY be what is at the heart of "no adds" or "preferential treatment" etc. - What you may see as preferential treatment; can also be seen as a "bonus perk" by others.

Should "frequent flyer miles" be given out via the level playing field rule?

If I spend one dollar vs someone that spends one thousand dollars be given the same bonus?

LOL, good cop outs. I love how you threw out the "your a liberal" card and "perhaps your one of those 99%ers or an occupy person to try and gain some form of superiority. How I could be a liberal, or other puke, talking about unfair taxes that take from the earners to give to the lazy is beyond me; that is what those movements are about. Pointing out my syntax errors was a great tactic to redirect attention. Where is the spell check on this forum? I don't see it.

As for the meaning of capitalism and its uses over different time periods, you really need to look it up. I think you would find it interesting. Words have meanings. Capitalism is a word condemning the free market as an evil. Heres an example of how powerful words can be. When we go to the polls and vote, we vote for people to represent us. We are saying that they can speak for us. Yet in the media, they are called leaders, which denote we voted for them to be the one to tell us how to live.

To be honest, you are the contradiction of terms. As Brain has pointed out, you talk about how great the free market is, then you say that preferential treatement is a bad thing. Brain has spelled out the reality of the free market. The problem is, you and many like you think we actually have a free market. Go read a book on economics. You might learn a thing or two.

Bubba, I have nothing against you personally. It just pains me to see people talk about things they don't understand. Perhaps my way of enlightening you are too harsh for your ego to handle, and for that I am sorry, but you really need to check your facts and reevaluate your perceptions.
