Thread Title: "Announcement - 10 Minute Rule"
AuctionArmsCeo

At the request of many of our users, and after consulting with our buyers and sellers over many months, we've decided make a change to how auctions are run at Auction Arms. Starting September 1st, all Auction Arms auctions will have a 10-minute rule implemented at closing time. This 10-minute rule means that if anyone bids in the last ten minutes of an auction, the auction will be extended by 10 minutes from the submission time of the bid. We feel, as do many others, that this new rule will benefit both buyers and sellers by giving everyone an opportunity to bid on an item to find it’s true market value. I realize that not everyone will be happy with this decision, but we feel it’s in the best interests of Auction Arms, and our buyer and sellers, and hope you will remain our loyal customer. Thanks for your patience.

Herbie - I try to see both sides of the issue before shooting off at the lip.  It seems to me that the guys at the bottom (we sellers and buyers) have come up with the perfect solution (as usual):  Let the seller decide if he wants his auction to have a 10-minute rule or not.  That way both factions are satisfied.

MIKE

SORRY MIKE, WHEN I GET CALLS FROM BUYERS SAYING THEY TRIED TO BID AND SITE DID NOT TAKE IT FOR ALMOST A MINUTE I KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM.  THIS WAY IT AUTO EXTENDS AND THEY HAVE TEN MINUTES TO TRY TO GET THE BID IN.

GO TO A REAL AUCTION AND WHEN ALL BIDDING STOPS THE AUCTION IS OVER NOT BY A SET TIME.

NOW WE WILL SEE HOW THIS WORKS OVER HERE. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE IT CUT A DEAL WITH NEIL AND SEE IF HE CUTS DEALS.  REMEMBER YOU CAN LOSE YOUR SHIRT ON PENNY AUCTIONS AND ON MY HIGHEST I TOOK A HIT OF $450.00.   JUST LIKE GAMBLING HEAVY. SOME TIMES YOU WIN AND SOMETIMES YOU LOSE.

NOW A BUNCH OF OUR SELLERS WENT TO OTHER SITE AND MADE LOTS OF EXTRA CASH. NOW WHY DO GUNS GO HIGHER THERE.  MAYBE YOU WILL FIGURE IT OUT.

MANNY DID THE RIGHT THING BY DOING THIS ONLY THING HE DID WRONG WAS HE SHOULD HAVE DONE IT A YEAR AGO. NOW IF GUNS BRING A HIGHER PRICE HE MAKES MORE. ALSO WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO GO NOW, WHERE THE SITE WILL BACK A BUYER UP OR TO A SITE THAT DOES NOT GIVE A DAM.

Herbie - I'm staying right here.  I know what I want to bid on a firearm before I start bidding and when it hits that, I'm out no matter if there is a 10-minute rule or not.

The Green Site has a higher bidder base and I think that's the primary reason you get more bids and higher prices there.  The more people you have bidding, the higher percentage of bidders who have no idea of the value of the item.  Hey, good for sellers, not so good for buyers.

Auction Arms is still my firearms auction venue of choice, 10-minute rule or not.

If the website is having a problem and wouldn't take a bid at the last minute then with the 10 minute rule if they put in a bid at the last minute it still won't take a bid. Why would the system work any better with or without the 10 minute rule? If it's having a problem it won't matter anyway.

NOW THE BIDS WILL GET SPACED THAT THEY DO NOT ALL TRY TO SNIPE IT LIKE BEFORE MEANING LESS TRAFFIC ON ONE AUCTION IN LAST MINUTE.

Sure, I'll bet the whole system will run like clockwork now, all the problems have been solved by adding the 10 minute delay.

One (but not all of the reasons) we switched to GB was the higher prices realized. Now AA is trying to equal the playing field in that area and I am watching it carefully to see where it is going.

I like it! It is more like a real auction. Good job AA.
