Thread Title: "Announcement - 10 Minute Rule"
AuctionArmsCeo

At the request of many of our users, and after consulting with our buyers and sellers over many months, we've decided make a change to how auctions are run at Auction Arms. Starting September 1st, all Auction Arms auctions will have a 10-minute rule implemented at closing time. This 10-minute rule means that if anyone bids in the last ten minutes of an auction, the auction will be extended by 10 minutes from the submission time of the bid. We feel, as do many others, that this new rule will benefit both buyers and sellers by giving everyone an opportunity to bid on an item to find it’s true market value. I realize that not everyone will be happy with this decision, but we feel it’s in the best interests of Auction Arms, and our buyer and sellers, and hope you will remain our loyal customer. Thanks for your patience.

Well I for one am against this new move and yes they are going to be about the same as GB now and that is sad and the guys are right about GB having more guns so if the rules are going to be the same why not go there-- the indiviuality is now gone and the reason for so much of what was liked about AA is also gone now. I never once heard any discussion as to what the buyers thought so that statement about asking buyers and sellers seems dubious at best and yes I know this is AA's site and they have the right to do it but we also have the right to take our business elsewhere too --now that we are being run off to the same things as GB who has more of a selection. The word auction is now less meaningful here. This on top of the Gpal fiasco and the failure to put forth proper communications really does raise serious questions about AA now--next thing we know Gb is going to buy AA out and we will have lost even more but they are nearly there already so what is the difference. I too like Trapper liked the idea (even if I knew it was very unlikely) of having the penny auctions where a guy could buy cheaply and also I agree what was said about phantom bidders driving the price up even more now. The chance of any bargains just went poof and that is why people come to the sight in the first place mainly.

BNPHunter - If anyone believes that there is no difference in AA or GB now, they're a fool or just plain ignorant.  Having bought on both, I will flatly state that if anyone has experienced a problem as a buyer on GB, the difference will be readily apparent.  The word "fairness" is not in GB's vocabulary if you a buyer with a problem.  They don't care.  To them, the seller is always right and they don't care if a seller screws a buyer.

Maybe I will not be able to able to buy as much as I have  previously on AA now but I know that I'm going to be backed up by the site if there's a problem and I'm in the right.

The difference in attitude toward buyers is the main reason I'll stick with AA as long as fairness to seller and buyers remains the site's policy.

I have, on a couple of occasions, needed to contact GB Customer Service concerning a problem or two. Each time it was not a bad experience and issues were resolved in a timely manner.

Also, there is one AA former seller who has recently experienced the same response form their customer service.

All things can change, as we all have experienced here on AA recently, and maybe GB has seen the light and now realizes the value of good customer service.

There's a time for being tactful and there's a time to be frank to the point of bluntness.  As much fun as I have with the guys here, there are times when some of us make me want to tear my hair out - if I had any.  Yeah, we've had some contentious issues and I've been as free with my opinions about the site, its policies, and the management as any.  Anyone qualified is free to express his opinion and unless it's waaaaay overboard, it stays on the forum.  I frankly doubt that the Green Site would let some of the criticisms I've seen here stay posted on their site and I have no doubt that the customer service here is far superior to theirs, escpecially for buyers.  Others may leave as they wish, but I'm staying unless there is the unlikley eventuality that AA started acting like GB toward the buyers on the site.

Live auctions continue until there are no more bidders, with the price being driven as high as the bidding audience allows, having reached what it is worth at that time to that audience. AA "auctions" are nothing more than a timed sale with the last bidder before the closing time emerging as the winner. The item does not reach it's actual worth to the audience as there was no way for bidding to continue until it WAS reached. The 10 minute rule will allow this, at least for 99% of the time. Buyers may not like it, but for the long term health of a site, it is required for items to sell foir what they are worth. Buyers also won't like it but also have to remember that it is not the seller that drives the price up, it is the buyer! Don't want to pay that much, DON'T BID.

Everyone is concerned that sales on the gun sites are down. Most everyone agrees that the economy is mostly the problem (along with over inflated prices). But the 10 Minute rule is not going to help anyone. It is stupid and a gimmick to fix whatever ails the firearms sales at this point and time.

Go over to the other cite and montior their sales. Even with the 15 min rule they are lagging in sales just like anyone else.

Sales are the sign of the times, bad economy, saturation of firearms due to buying sprees because of Obama, and over inflated prices buy some sellers who have no idea what the market will bear.

If AA would have just left things alone sales would correct themselves when all the other factror mentioned above get corrected.

The 10 minute rule sucks.

Bubba, I have stated before here that I had a couple of problems at GB and I had no problem solveing them either.  Brain is 100% correct if there is 10-15 minute rules on both site and the other site offers 50 items of varying prices and the compedtitor offer 10, my chance of finding the right gun at the right price increases by volume. Customer service is great but it is not the end all of a deal. To begin with problems happen but are hardly the rule. I have posted guns here and couldn't get my starting price even after relisting at a much lower start. switching sites I had 650 hits and sold the gun for 135.00 more than I espected using a BIN. The reverse has also been true and I have sold a gun here for a fair price that I couldn't give away at the other site. BUT ya have to go with the law of averages. I am looking for a used 1100 rem 12 ga. Ther are 13 here and over 200 there. If I find the one I want, I will buy here prefered. But chances are the better deal is there. These are FACTS and I am not bashing AA. I love this site and spend many an hour sitting here in the forums or running through the auctions but I fear this is a big mistake and is going to cost buyers, seller and AA in the end.     Trapper

What it boils down to is that with the present system buyers often got a sweet deal at the expense of sellers. Sellers will be able to use the new tool to get a closer to the actual value price for their wares. Does that mean buyers are going to now get screwed? No. What it means is buyers will STILL be able to name the maximum price that they want to pay for an item. No one will MAKE you go back to an auction and keep entering a bid until no more bids appear, unless you WANT to. Buyers will STILL set the price for the item, it just may be someone other than you who bids the most and WANTS it most. It has become more fair for all involved. Are sales down everywhere? Don't know, everything I list sells, and I have listed more this year than the last two years combined, although I am now cleaning out alot of small clutter non firearm items so my auction numbers are up. Is it at the best price I can get for it? It will be closer now, and will STILL be no more than the winner wants to pay for it.

Pete's, let me ask you this question. If you are for this timed delay then why have you been selling here for the last 5 years instead of being over at the other site? Wouldn't you have made far more money over there with their current 15 delay?

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you stayed with Auction Arms, I'm just asking.
