Thread Title: "New Communication Feature"
AuctionArmsCeo Buyers and sellers can now communicate with each other through the auction. Any messages sent between buyer and seller are now posted into the auction. We've found that sellers were having to repeatedly answer the same questions over and over, and by posting their reponse into the auction, they now answer everyone else's questions, too.

(no avatar) I was ready to list about 300 auctions in the penny area but seeing the new communications system, the ongoing server outages, etc it really makes it hard to convince my partners to list here.

Lack of promontories of the site, lack of having the servers working, lack of the notification servers working, lack of trust of the sellers, we spent a lot of money on auctions on this site but I hate to say it is falling apart. Spend some money on upgrades or bandwidth or whatever.

I read and respond to multiple forums and the result is AA Who?, or boring not much listed, items listed not on penny auctions not getting bids etc. We have been sellers here since the start. For the first few years AA ruled but sorry to say not anymore. Money is Money when cost are what they are and returns are? Go ahead and delete this if you don't like it, or Bob give me a call.

Fix the friggin message system I can't get rid of messages answered at least a month ago and marked read How about a stinkin delete button. WAKE UP

WILLIE TA WHY DOESENT AA GIVE US A CHOICE ON THE MESSAGE SYSTEM LIKE SOME OTHER THINGS WE HAVE. JUST HAVE US REPLY THROUGH AUCTION PAGE OR DIRECT AND THATS IT. WE DON'T NEED A SECOND REMINDER IF WE GET THE E MAIL, WITH THE MESSAGE PAGE.

(no avatar) I always noticed that when thunder started and got louder and louder and closer . Pretty good chance a big storm was about to hit and you better take every precaution to protect yourself .

One more big seller that I know and respect {nhmoose} joins the dissatisfied group.

Manny; The thunder and lightning is here !!!!!

Petesguns nhmoose, welcome to the "complain in vain" club. This system has been force fed to us on the pretense that it was for our own best interest. (What a load!) Until it impacts AA squarely in the wallet, we don't have a chance in h***. This system was foisted upon us like gun control from the democrats. We got it whether we wanted it or not. I have TRIED mightily to accept it, but alas, my inner independent self has rejected it summarily, period. I hate it, period. Only when AA starts to suffer in their take home pay, will ANYTHING be done to revert back to where it was. At least know that you are not alone in your discontent. Misery DOES love company.

And, yes AA-Bob et al, I DO equate this with what the Democrats do.......I live in VERY democratic MA and see it all the time and know it VERY well, so if you get upset at being called democraps, oh well....if the shoe fits!......Tom @ Petesguns

AA-bob

NHMOOSE, thanks for your comments, as always they are welcome, However, I'm somewhat confused. What "ongoing server outages" "lack of having the servers working", "lack of the notification servers working" are you talking about. We experience one outage on 8-13-06 and a minor mail server outage back in April, a photo server problem in January and an item posting issue in November 2005. All of which were addressed and fixed in less than 12 hours. Hardly ongoing.

We strive to give you the same level of service you get from other service providers you use, like the electricity company, the phone company, etc. We strive to give you a "dial tone" every time you use AuctionArms. We think we do pretty good in that regards, however, as in anything there is always room for improvement and we continually work to reduce any outages.

Now, I understand as a customer you've paid quite a bit of commissions over the years and we appreciate your business. Have you ever thought about why? Well, I'd venture because we've been successful in providing you with what you expect, with a market to move your items at a profit. If we didn't you of course wouldn't be taking the time to voice your concern.

Now, with regards to the messaging issue. This new messaging service grew out of needs in several areas.

One, sellers were constantly complaining about deadbeat bidders. Many of these "deadbeats" are just that. Many others, and from experience a majority or large minority of them, turn out to be Gun lovers that are remedial PC users. They have no idea what a SPAM blocker is, how, it works, or how to fix it so they can receive email from their sellers or from AuctionArms. The same can be said for many sellers. As a result, communications on a whole were not being effective and too many of your combined sales were being lost for no other reason than "failure to communicate".

Sure, some of you say you have no problems with communication, scrap the new message system. Well, if you'll recall, many of you complaining about the new message system were the very same folks complaining about deadbeats and AuctionArms "need" to do something about it. They insidious thing about this problem is you could be having all sorts of problems and never know it. The endless disputes I've gotten into over this issue usually resolves itself when folks actually CHECK their SPAM folders and filters. Human nature being what it is, we will all take the easy path and blame the other guy, and blithely go through life grumbling about those "deadbeats" who won't communicate. Yes, I realize change is hard.

A second major reason for the new messaging system is Many of the disputes I work are of the type where a seller says "I sent 3 email and got no answer, he's a deadbeat". The other side of the story is frequently an echo of the same complaint. "Did, not, I sent 3 emails and the guy won't answer me, I think it went too low and he doesn't want to go through with the deal". Turns into a "he said/he said" mess. Many times one or the other is making a bald faced lie and is laying down a smoke screen as delaying tactic to send me and the seller (or buyer) off on a wild goose chase gathering email sent (if they were kept) to prove communications were attempted. Many times it turns out both parties unknowingly had their SPAM filter tweaked so high, a message from the Lord almighty would have gone straight into the SPAM folder to keep company with the "Viagra" and "Letters from relatives of Nigerian Ministers" SPAM. The messages method gets around this very problem and provides "Proof positive" record of when and what communications were sent. Indeed it is a cheap insurance policy that provides you with proof you've complied with all requirements of the Terms and Conditions for a sale should a dispute arise.

A third major reason for instituting the messaging system, and one that continues to plague us today since we've allowed the alternative of using email, is the dirty little problem of off auction sales. No, of course, none of you here could possibly ever be responsible for this sort of activity, of course not! However, there are folks in this world who, if you are not vigilant about security, will slip into your house or business and steal you blind without a second thought. Think of off-auction sales as the internet equivalent of shoplifting. Now, how many of you lock your shops up at night? Your home? Your car? How many carry concealed? Why? Isn't that a terrible inconvenience and now to insure security of your possessions you have to carry and to keep up with your keys. Why, it's the police's fault. They should do something about all this so I am not inconvenienced with dealing with my own business and personal security or having to safeguard my possessions. It's an outrage I tell you. Think I'll teach them, I'll move to _____ (fill in a destination where they are sure to have the same or worse problems).

Messaging helps this problem, does it solve it completely? No. But if we can't get a handle on this problem, we'd be forced to do something we haven't done since we put the system on a commission percentage basis. The same thing that all store front sellers do as a matter of course to cover the costs of shoplifting...raise our prices (Horrors). I can't imagine HOW shrill the uproar would be if we did that. LOL!

No, we need your help to devise ways to make this communication system work and to tighten up security while avoiding raising prices.

With those objectives in mind, We'd sure appreciate making some lemonade out of lemons. Some constructive criticism and suggestions from you our good customers would be very helpful. Endless general complaints are really not all that helpful.

OK, you know the mission and objectives, help us develop the plan of attack on how to make this message system work for you.

Pappa Jim Your right AA-Bob "Endless general complaints are really not all that helpful." And you have gone to great length to express AA's point of view and the needs that brought this about. However let’s see if we can get an open dialogue here so maybe you can see our point of view. First off (as I'm sure your aware) gun enthusiasts are in general a hard headed and independent bunch. And again as I’m sure you’re aware we face daily battles with the anti gun crowd and the Democratic political part who wish to eliminate our way of life for our own benefit. So when an upstanding and prominent member of our community (Auction Arms) dose something like just changing this whole system without talking to us and then openly states like Manny did in post 210 “the Auction Arms Message Center is here to stay. Get used to it.” allot of us feel betrayed. Many of our members here feel there is not much difference between the style of attack used on 9-11 and the way this manifested itself. Both are seen as back door attacks on things we love. Now I know that this is not what AA intended when you implemented this new system. And I know you really did have our best interest in mind. However you know as well as I that you have to consider how people are going to react to something you do or say before you do it. Especially when you’re running a business like AA . In truth I don’t think that had the new system been completely perfect upon implementation that it would have been accepted any better. Allot of people were (and still are) so seriously upset with the approach taken that it wouldn’t have mattered if you were giving them gold bullion for free. We can all agree that when AA implemented this new system there were some functional problems with it. These problems only tightened their stand that they were being force fed crap with a shovel. As I said before this is a really hard headed group and once they get there teeth into a bone you got to play hell to get them to let it go. What it all comes down to is that as a business AA implemented a system that has not been received well with their customers. Many of your customers have had problems with the functionality of the new system and most of your customers that you have herd back from via this forum don’t like it. Many have expressed their dissatisfaction with this new system but feel that you’re not listening or that you don’t care what your customers think. It doesn’t matter that AA had good intentions or that they think this is a great idea if your customers aren’t happy and take their business elsewhere. Please consider listening to your customers they have been trying to tell you what they want.

Petesguns Mirandavold, you have expressed my viewpoint ELOQUENTLY. The problem is, that you are right! AA probably won't be reverting to the old system anytime soon.

Pappa Jim Petesguns

I tried to explain our point of view in the same manner AA Bob expressed thiers. I just hope that AA seriously considers their customers feelings before they don't have any customers left. I really like this site and would really dislike seeing it fall apart. It's the reson I took up on Willie Ta's thread about the photos as well.

(no avatar) The slowness of the site, lack of advertising the site no trust of sellers is my problem. Try surfing the site on a Sunday night it creeps so does the notifications.

How come no mention about the LACK of Trust of sellers?

Buyers who have spam controls they cannot figure out ARE deadbeats.

Bob I have always been partial to AA and the usual rapid service from you guys but this notification thing is crap.

Partners will not allow me to list until it is gone and we have contact to buyers when they ask questions. You do not trust us to have their emails well See you until you do.

Note: your loss this site is going downhill and I am sick of telling folks who go to the other sites to go here when you do not advertise anywhere as much as the other maligned sites.

Manny wants the control so our control is not to use your service until attitudes here change. Trust appears gone here.

My partners will not allow me to list until it is gone and we have contact to buyers when they ask questions. You do not trust us to have their emails well See you until you do.
