Thread Title: "New Communication Feature"
AuctionArmsCeo Buyers and sellers can now communicate with each other through the auction. Any messages sent between buyer and seller are now posted into the auction. We've found that sellers were having to repeatedly answer the same questions over and over, and by posting their reponse into the auction, they now answer everyone else's questions, too.

(no avatar) AA;BOB: How do we delete the old messages in our "Messages..in box"? They make me nuts to have to by-pass to check on our sales items.

AuctionArmsCeo What part is still broken? You are aware that we extended a number of auctions scheduled to close yesterday because of an outage, right? We're still working that problem out, but it's taken care of - for the most part. The only part of messaging we impacted was communications between buyer and seller before the end of auction - not after. That part is still the same...

(no avatar) Sirs, i have been in business 40 years worked many people had lots of theft even had a sectretary who stole 50,000 in a years time. There will always be stealing and if you tighten up aa they will just move over to gunbrokers and your site will grow smaller and the loss of revenue will probably equal what you are losing now, personally i had rather put up with a littlke theft than to stop growing. This is a very bad idea and is causing me too many problems and i do every thing myself and don't have time for the extra load and will have to start going to gun brokers , i;d rather stay wilth aa because of extra pics and haggle but will have to live without them if this ruling stays in place. Thanks for listening to me. BIBI

AuctionArmsCeo SPORTSMANSSUPPLY, our contact system - post auction - is still the same and never changed. Are you getting an error message?

Petesguns, other than the outage that we experienced yesterday, everything appears to be working - unless you know of something else I don't.

Mars_308, I'm adding to the 'My Messaging' page. You should be able to remove messages in short order.

AuctionArmsCeo I am less worried about theft than I am about buyers and sellers not being able to contact each other - a far larger problem. The primary reason for the messaging system is to eliminate email as a problem. This keeps being brought up as if it's the only reason we brought it up, and it's really secondary to the primary problem of email not working very well. As a seller, if you can't contact your buyer - there isn't going to be a sale. As a buyer, if you can't contact your seller - there isn't going to be a sale.

Please understand that we've rolled back some code, and now everyone is getting email addresses again. Except for the messaging center (which is just showing you what we always logged, instead of hiding it) everything is back to it's old unreliable email-based self. We will continue to improve the message center, and we know it's not yet complete, but it's not going away.

(no avatar) I have a few ideas for the new feature:
  • 1) Use a thinner blue bar to distinguish this section from from the auction text and bidding text;
  • 2) Make the font of the entire feature just a hair smaller; and
  • 3) Indent the answer to the question so it's easier to follow. And finally, have a delete option for the message. Thanks!
