I am always at a loss why folks insist on snyping? All I can see is it is a good way to loose an auction. Use our Proxy Bid, place your Maximum bid early (that way you win all ties) and then chuckle while the snypers are stymied by your proxy. |

AA-bob - I'd tell you why I snipe but don't want to give away my secrets. |

| (no avatar) | To some, Proxy bidding is like laying your cards face up on the table in the middle of the game. |

Please let me attempt to give you a helping hand in finding what you have lost where sniping is the subject. There is more to it than meets the eye Bob. By sniping one can very possibily get something at a lower price rather than post a proxy bid and have someone else run the price up. A good sniper will snipe by placing their highest willing to pay price in the last seconds. If they win, chances are good that they will get it at a price lower than their max proxy bid. If not, then it will sell for more than the sniper is willing to pay. Sorta like playing poker. Holding your best hand until the last call. Does this make sense?? It does to me and works most of the time. PLUS the adrenalin rush when a snipe attack wins. ;OD FR&G |

A question Bob, If I place a proxy bid of 1000.00 and the high bid is 500.00 and is mine. A sniper gets his bid of 501.00 in the last second. When the auction closes it is over so, does the computer place my 502.00 bid after it closes? trapper |

I agree with Bubba J. I have won many an auction with his method, I have lost some also. I think the proxy bid is something to use if you will be away and cannot be there at the end of the auction. I have placed my max bid sometimes and then got out bid in the final minutes of an auction and then still bid higher on something I really wanted. This is something that not only happens on A.A. but other sites as well. Some buyers complain about sniping but I figure if you want it place your highest bid. That is what an auction is, it goes to the highest bidder. Sellers like sniping. Bubba J, I remember years back when bidding in the last few moments of an auction the heart was pounding and I was sweating all over. Now I reserve that to "other" activities. |

Trying to button my jeans, even with two good arms/hands. I need some of those "Magic Buttons" that are advertised on TV. ;O@ Shucks, I tried to snipe a .390 Makarov last night but got out bid by $1.00 with 5 seconds left on the auction. No big deal!! I had my snipe bid at the most that I was willing to pay. Someone wanted it more than I did. IF I really had to have this item, then my snipe bid would have been considerably higher so that I would be sure to win. I LIKE SNIPING!!!! It is all part of the game!! You win some -- You loose some -- and some just get rained out. That's my philosophy. FR&G |

Well, my take on sniping is exactly as Bubba J's. If one waits until the last second, it DOES keep the $ from being run up. That does not always work, but it has quite often for me. PLUS, with one of the many sniping services out there, one can simply enter the $ amount one wants to bid and it does so at the very last second, almost ALWAYS winning unless a higher proxy bid was in place. JMHO, but it has always worked for me. Of course, when and if AA goes to a "minute rule", it will be a non issue. |
