Hi, Sellers. Manny here at AuctionArms.com, Inc.>/p>

First off, I'd like to thank all you loyal sellers for using Auction Arms. We appreciate your business at the BEST place on the Internet for Firearms Auctions.

Next, I'd like to take this opportunity to announce a little change you may notice over the next few days. As you all know, Auction Arms was founded on the notion that a seller could auction an item and not have to pay any listing fees or commission fees for the service until an actual sale was made. We believe that this is important to you and we intend to maintain that ability for you, our great customers. We have held to this basic notion, and have not increased any of our special optional listing fees or commission rates for over five years. As businessmen however, I'm sure you can all understand and appreciate the very real challenges and problems of increasing costs. Unfortunately, Auction Arms is not immune from the impact of these increasing costs.

Determined to hold our fees at current levels, we have decided to meet the problem of increased costs through more actively selling our advertising inventory. We are currently in negotiations and expect to reach an agreement with a advertising broker to market and sell our advertising space. You may in the very near future notice that new banner advertisements are showing up on our pages, and in your auction listings.

We also recognize that some sellers may strongly prefer not to have advertising banners show up in their auctions. To this end, you will also soon notice an additional special feature when you are listing an item. This special feature option will give you the ability to opt out of having an advertising banner show up in your auction. You will be able to select this feature in each new and relisted auction. The initial fee for this special feature will be a nominal fee of $0.25 per auction listing.

Again, I appreciate your business and loyalty, and I trust this small change will not be disruptive.

Thanks for using AuctionArms.com. We appreciate your business at the BEST place on the Internet for Firearms Auctions!

AA-bob I believe we sent email out to any sellers that had posted an auction within the past 6 months.

Petesguns Never got my email, Bob, but that is irrelevant, the fact that I found out through the forums shows how effective the forums can be. I can ABSOLUTELY understand trying to find a way to bolster the bottom line; these are decisions and dilemmas all of us in business face every day. I, as well, have found that MANY of my customers know about the "other" site. Far too large a portion have never heard of AA. While selling advertising space will help the bottom line, I do not think you will see an increase in market share. Mind you, I do not know the solution, but perhaps an in depth examination into the growth of the "other" site may reveal some possible avenues to explore. I firmly believe that an increase in market share, and number of auctions posted will provide the revenue increase you are seeking. I can only start to suggest possible ways; advertising at local level gun shows, utilizing ALL of the gun magazines with flashy ads, offering limited time discounts to new sellers that could even be keyed to a sign up campaign run through magazine and TV ads, providing handouts to FFL dealers through a mail campaign, (costly, but possibly effective), etc., etc. The banner ads idea COULD be a good one if you offered an opportunity to place a banner on our OWN auctions at a minimal price. I really like it here, and all ideas that can help this SITE grow, will help not only YOUR market share, but OURS as well.

(no avatar) I've been reading all these comments and have mixed emotions about all this.

The first thing I did was watch my auctions to see what was up. A banner at the top with 4 different ads rotating, if you push the refresh button.

How many banners are there? I don't know - so, I thought about it some more. I even clicked on each one to get AA some credits and learned something about the Henrys, Silverados, Hillbilly Custom Rifles and LLBean.

My conclusion - it's AA web site to do with as they please - they've given us the sellers notice. Better than some - the ads would have just popped up and many of us would proably never have known the difference.

AA is entitled to a profit, even if they are making the BIG $s. And if they can draw more potential customers to the AuctionArms web site through this new scheme - that's GREAT - for you, me and AA.

I would like to make one suggestion about the banners. I've noticed when you click on some it takes you immeadiately to the 'other web site' wipping out the current AuctionArms auction and some open a new browser instance leaving our auctions intact. I'd like to see all the banners open a new instance of the browser and leave the AuctionArms auctions intact.
