Thread Title: "How to post Pictures to the Forum"
AA-bob

Hi, Folks. Bob here from AuctionArms.com. This question comes up often, so though I'd post instructions on how to post pictures here in the system forum for ease of reference.

Here is how to post a picture to the Forum (or any other web page form that accepts HTML language).

First, you need a picture (obviously). It needs to be in .jpg or .gif format. Then you’ll need to put the picture somewhere on the internet (you can’t post a picture to the forums directly from your computer), so you’ll need a web page to host the picture. You can host a picture on AuctionArms. Simply log in, go to you account pages, click on the "Selling" tab and then on the “My Pictures” button. Click the “Upload Pictures – Old” and browse your computer for the picture file (our system will only accept .gif and .jpg style files, so be sure the picture you want to upload is in one of these two formats).

If you have multiples, use the regular "Upload Pictures" (you may need to load and install a bit of "Active-X" code we provide you . don't worry it's safe to load).

Once the picture is uploaded, find it in your “My Pictures” page. Double click on it. You should see the picture in a browser page. If it shows, you will notice in the address panel of the browser a URL address for the picture. It should look something like this:
http://pictures.auctionarms.com/8038222630/58eabce5454a1a4feb52e188c2020f5f.jpg?aa=20070314113010. Highlight this address and copy it (use "Ctrl+C" keys at the same time or once it is highlighted, put your mouse cursor over the highlighted address and right click it). Then click “copy” from the drop down menu.

Now, compose your message in the forum, and where ever you want the picture to show type:
<img src=”[paste the URL address here using the "Ctrl+P" keys at the same time or right click then "paste" from the drop down menu]”>.

(Note: we allow HTML language in our forum postings. This HTML is relatively easy to learn and besides posting pictures, will let you easily format your postings into paragraphs, add line spacing change fonts, etc. (do a web search for "HTML" to find some primers on how to use HTML).

Make sure you have the “<” ">" brackets and quotes, just like they are above with the URL address inside them, just like you copied from the picture address.

Your finished product should look something like this:
<img src="http://pictures.auctionarms.com/8038222630/58eabce5454a1a4feb52e188c2020f5f.jpg?aa=20070314113010">.

Seems a bit complicated, but once you've gone through it, it's not so bad. If the image is already on a web page, it's even easier as all you need to do is copy the URL address and paste it between <img src=" ">.

Repeat as required for each picture.

Good luck.

gov2mod Bob, that sounds like the probable cause of my problem but I'm still baffled about something with this "My pictures" section. In the following paragraph copied from that section it says "This only includes pictures you've uploaded through this utility." When I looked at the photo's in "my pictures" virtually all of them are from my auctions which I do not load in "My pictures" I always upload them directly in an auction listing, never in my pictures. The only photo's I have ever uploaded in the "My pictures" section were the very few I put on the forums, never for my auctions. I'm afraid if I delete any of these photo's from "my pictures" that same photo will disappear from my auctions as well. If all the photo's I upload when posting an auction are going to "my pictures" as well it's no wonder it's filled up. Why are my photo's that I upload while posting an auction going to "my pictures" as well and what happens to those sellers that have hundreds of auctions with multiple photo's? Aren't their "my pictures" section filling to the maximum as well? "This is your collection of pictures you've uploaded to Auction Arms thus far. This DOES NOT INCLUDE the single pictures you've uploaded in the creation of your auctions. This only includes pictures you've uploaded through this utility. If you'd like to add a thumbnail to your auction, you can select the auction and pictures, and you'll be given the choice of which picture to use as your thumbnail. This feature only works for auctions that don't have a thumbnail."

gov2mod, Not sure what you're doing to get pictures in your "My Pictures". When you post an auction, you can load pictures at that time, they do not go into your "My Pictures" file, but rather directly yo the Auction. To see if you have duplicates (I suspect) right click on a picture in your "My Pictures" that you know is included in an auction. Then click "Properties" Make a note of the "Address (URL)" displayed in "Properties".

Now go to the Auction that displays the same picture, right click on the picture, select "Properties" and compare the "Address(URL)" displayed. If they are not the same, you can safely delete the "My Pictures" copy.

Of course, you can always go to My Pictures to Upload a picture(s) and add it to an auction later. To Bulk load several (or even one) picture(s) you just need to upload the picture(s), Select an auction in the "drop down", click "Select" next to each picture you want to add to the auction, then click the "Add to Auction" button. you will get a page similar to this one (I was just loading one):

Add Pictures to Auction

The following is a list of pictures to be added to your auction.

Would you like to add a thumbnail to your auction? Thumbnails are a great way to improve your listing, and give it the attention it deserves...

If you'd like to add a thumbnail, just select the picture you'd like to use and click the button that says 'YES - I'd like to add a thumbnail!!!' Your thumbnail picture will designated as the first picture to be appear in your auction, and a thumbnail will appear next to your listing. Thumbnails are a Special Feature that are just $0.50.

  Thumbnail?     Picture     Description
Uploaded
  Status
eastercat.jpg 03/20/08 Unprotected

The pictures listed above are going to be added to your auction below:

9026543 - test auction   Current Price:  $0.01

All unprotected pictures listed above will be removed from 'My Pictures'... The picture will still appear in the auction, but will no longer be listed as an unassigned picture... (If you'd like for the picture to remain in 'My Pictures' even after adding it to an auction, you must click the Protect link next to the picture on the previous page.)

These pictures will be added to your auction, but do not replace existing pictures.

Are you sure?

Sure enough, when I posted that unprotected picture to the auction, it disappeared from my "My Pictures" folder.

Alternatively, you can also post a single picture to an auction by clicking the "(Add to Auction)" link next to an individual picture.

To answer your earlier question about the page(http://postitem.auctionarms.com/PictureUpload-New.cfm?) which, by the way is the link behind the "Upload Pictures" button in your "My Pictures" folder. That Page allows you to load New Pictures to "My Pictures" if you have room and will tell you how many pictures you can load. For instance, I'm close to max in my "My Pictures" folder. When I use that link, I get the following message:

"Upload your Pictures
You may upload up to 26 files..."

Telling me how many pictures (26 in this instance) I can load.

Another tip. If you are loading a picture in "My Pictures" to post in the Forum. Be sure to keep it in your "My Pictures" (I recommend click the "Protect" link so it won't be inadvertently erased). If you delete it from My pictures, it will no longer display in the "Forum" but rather you'll get a little red "x".

Another tip. If you use a picture in your Auctions over and over (like little dogs or birds, etc.), load that picture to "My Pictures", protect it and then load the same picture every time to the Auctions. That way it will stay in your "My Pictures" folder for future use, even if loaded to an Auction.

Bubba J AA-bob: I have tried all of your siggestions as well as the ines made by several others with no success. I removed/re-loaded the image uploader and several other items and even tried it using my wife's lap top without any success. As I mentioned, the old system works for me but not the new one now. It was working fine. Beats me.

BTW, I see the new, 03/02/09 upload in my "My Pictures". It must be working for all but me. Probably a dumb thing I'm either doing or not doing. =O>

gov2mod When I post a new auction I click on "click here" and enter the photo's at the beginning of the auction. I never load them thru "my pictures" except for the very few I've posted to the forum. Whenever I have had to add a photo later after the auction has posted I still don't use "my pictures" as I go to edit and enter the url of the photo I want to add.

I've already tried the trick of checking the properties of the photo's in "my pictures" and comparing them to the photo's in my auctions. Virtually all of the ones I've checked are the same number. One that had the same number I removed from "my pictures" and yes it was removed from the auction it was listed on. I've got no clue how they got on "my pictures" when I put them directly on the auction when I list it. As for the 250 limit I deleted several photo's down to 243 and the button has not returned. When I sent that page url to others they DO have the button when viewing it yet when I sent you the two photo's last night you don't see the button do you? I'm just about to give up on it.

When I started using this new computer with Vista a few weeks ago I didn't load the Aurigma Active-X Image uploader software as my photo's loaded ok. I did try loading the fix you sent last night but it didn't seem to help. I did download it on my old computer that has XP. I am using Internet Explorer 8 and I can't find the Aurigma Active-X Image uploader software in "manage add-ons"

Can you load more than ten pictures to an auction doing it this way?

I can't find the Aurigma Active-X Image uploader software in "manage add-ons"

I can find it on both of my computers (using XP & XP Professional) and it is enabled on both but still can't seem to upload.

Wonder what I'm missing, other than much patience??

Hagrid FFG< I'll try it from here if it doesn't work email me your phone # and a good time to call and we will go through it step by step. Ok first create and auction. Do not add picture to the auction at this time. once it is created and showing on AA. Go home and click MY AUCTIONS. when there click MY PICTURES.click UPLOAD PICTURES It will take you to MY DOCUMENTS in your puter. you should have all pics for your auctions stored there.High light EACH PIC then ADD or CLICK ADD ALL for the pics you want to display. When done click UPLOAD PICTURES it will automatically send them to your auction and they will appear on the FINAL auction page. If you have more than one auction created, it will ask you to choose which auction you want these pics to attach to. Pick the auction and click add pics and you are done. It is very simple. I find it faster to do it one at a time but then I only list a couple at a time and I'm not a large seller.

Bubba J bugmantrap: Thanks! I will give it a shot. It's just before I could upload pictures from my computer to "My Pictures" without creating an auction. Oh well, as long as I can include more than the old standard 10 it'll be OK. If not, I'll send you my phone number.

Hagrid ffg, you still can. I have no auctions running and I just uploaded some pics of a smallish buck I killed this year and sent them to my pictures without a hitch. they are still there. Trapper
