Thread Title: "AuctionArms Popularity...double edged sword??"
AA-bob

Like the old saw goes, "Be careful of what you ask for, you may get it..."

Well, AuctionArms has been working hard to increase our popularity and new customer base through several marketing efforts including On-line Advertising and Search Engine Optimizations.

As a result of these efforts and our increasing popularity, during our highest load period yesterday afternoon/evening(Sunday afternoon is traditionally our highest use period), for about 20 minutes, we had an unusually high number of concurrent users. This situation overloaded our servers and actually created a situation similar to when the phone company sends you the message on an uncompleted call "all circuits are busy, please try your call again later."

While our servers were not technically "down" (They were churning at 100%), some users experienced a situation that made AuctionArms appear to be "down" since they could not make a connection.

Long term this is "good" thing (more bidders, more sellers). It sucked in the short term yesterday for users who were trying to get a connection during that short period.

As a result, we apologize to anyone who experienced this problem. We are currently adding additional servers today to increase our ability to handle concurrent users by 30% and will be monitoring closely for any indications that additional server space is needed before it becomes a problem.

Thanks to one and all for your cooperation and understanding of this "good to have/bad to experience" situation while we beef up the site's abilities to handle everyone who wants to use AuctionArms.

(no avatar) Auction bidding is gamesmanship, pure and simple. Some are good at it, some don't want to bother with it, and some resent it. For the latter two, there are Classifieds or BINs. An auction capitalizes on the varied psychologies of the bidders all working against each other. That's the way it is, and that's the way it's always been. That makes an "auction".

The proxy bid is a necessary, proper and mutually agreeable way of participating in the process. It usually works to the benefit of the seller.

Bubba J Hagrid: I have found this to be 100% true in my case. I'll tend to see something that I "think" that I absolutely have to have and I'll go out of my way to own it. Then..................after receiving, looking at, possibly using, fondling, caressing, and showing it off like a kid with a new toy..................the glow dims dramatically in most instances and I either sell, or trade it for something else.

The only exceptions to this are family heirlooms and gifts from friends & relatives. AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...................the hunt followed by a good chase.........these things cause parts of my anatomy & inner being to perk up and gets the adrenalin flowing like a raging river.

Hagrid I have in my gun cabinet, A custom made 243. VZ-24 action,Flaig barrel.birdseye maple Mannlicher stock, engraved spoon bolt handle. This was made by a local artisan who is now 93 yrs old and still tinkers. I first saw this rifle 39 yrs ago in the cabinet of a guy who was to become my best friend. I drooled over this for all that time and tried many many times to buy it.I have shot more deer with that gun than any I have ever owned and I BORROWED it to do it. He dangled it like a carrot for years. I finally had a rifle he wanted just as bad and we swapped. I haven't hunted with it once since. The desire is gone. You guys will probably see it at auction soon. It aint gonna be cheap but it is a one of a kind and a hell of a shooter to boot. trapper

Hagrid Jim, If I could figure out how to work this pic posting system here, I'd give you a peek at it. Very nice rifle. A little heavy but very little recoil. Great kids gun. trap

Bubba J Hagrid: Sounds like a nice toy to add to a group that already plays nice together.

5th: I'll bet that it is a bunch better than rock salt loads. ;o0

Guys I think this is a wild bunch here in the forums. And that si good I hate to be the only wild man on here. Hey AA how about this limiting folks to only one ad for the same item. There are some that have several ads on here for the same item and that takes a lot of time to sort thru when you are looking at thing but it is not productive time and means that folks are on here going thru stuff they have seen several times and thus tying up your servers and the other folks on here as well. It is a common thing on ebay and makes me crazy every time I run into it--the same thing listed several times by the same person and they only have on of them-- if I was to want several of them then it would be good to find --but then they only have one of them and that would plain (**& me off too.--Just a thought on what appears to be an older thread.

You aren't the only wild man here.  You're just the only one who's not heavily medicated at present.  Anyone for another heavy hit of Thorazine?
