COLT ~ GOVERNMENT MODEL .45

EARLY POST-WAR, MFD 1947

INCREDIBLE ORIGINAL CONDITION w/ BOX!

NO RESERVE!! The finest example I've seen! Here's a flat gorgeous Colt Government Model .45 automatic! Manufactured shortly after WWII in early 1947, this beautiful pistol has some features that are unique to the period of production. It seems that following the victory over Japan and the end of the war, all of the large military contracts were immediately canceled leaving Colt with a sizable inventory of parts. Rather than waste them, these military style components were worked into the early post-war commercial production. This pistol has several of these WWII era military components including the 5-groove slide stop, checkered hammer, checkered safety, military .080" front sight, and military plastic stocks. The magazine is of pre-war style construction with the pinned base. The frame, slide, and barrel are of post-war commercial production, as is the grooved trigger. The left side of the slide is marked "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A."...a style that was only used from late 1946 through mid-1947. The top and rear of the slide are finished matte with the balance of the pistol finished bright blue...a style used only through late 1947 when the grip straps and bottom of the pistol had the matte finished added also.

As previously noted, this pistol is in outstanding original condition. It has NOT been refinished and is absolutely guaranteed 100% original in every way. The factory original blue finish rates better than 99% with only a few very tiny handling marks. There is absolutely no rust, freckling, pitting, or corrosion of any kind. The feed ramp is properly milled in the white and there is burnishing in the "VP" verified proof mark. Although the rollmarking on the right side of the slide appears to be "light", this is not an indication of refinishing but rather of a die that was worn and nearing the end of its life...and fairly typical of the Government Model pistols in this serial range. The grips are excellent with no significant wear. This pistol is in perfect mechanical condition, everything working normally. The barrel is properly unmarked with correctly polished throat, chamber area, and tip of muzzle. The bore is like new...mirror bright with sharp rifling. Looking at the interior, it appears to me that this pistol is virtually unfired...test fired at most. It comes in THE original box...not just a "correct" box, but the very box that shipped with the gun in 1947. The box has all the correct attributes of a box made in early 1947 including the "grey" colored cardboard interior with printed labels. This style box is actually quite scarce...used only in late 1946 to mid-1947. The serial number of the pistol is properly factory marked on the bottom. The end label is in excellent shape and the box itself rates very good with some normal shelf wear, some damage to the top and bottom from tape removal (not me!), and one separated corner on the lid.

This is truly an outstanding example of an early post-war Colt Government Model .45...you will almost certainly never be able to upgrade this pistol, it's just that good!

Buyer pays $25.00 shipping. Your C&R License is acceptable for transfer if permitted in your area.
