COLT ~ U.S. ARMY 1911 .45 AUTO

ORIGINAL FINISH...Mfd JANUARY, 1913...C&R OK

NO RESERVE!! Here's a nice early Colt 1911! This pistol was manufactured in early 1913, the second year of production! It is in good overall condition and retains most of the original factory blue finish. The left side of the frame is marked with the intertwined "WGP" inspection mark belonging to Major Walter G. Penfield. The slide is correctly marked for a pistol in this serial range with the circled Colt "pony" behind the cocking serrations and lacking the final "1913" patent date that was added in about May of 1914. It has the correct round-top rear sight and narrow front sight. The barrel is correctly marked with the vertical "H" on rear of the chamber hood. Most of the various small parts are correct as well including the "short" hammer, early thumb safety with sharp/thin ledge, recoil spring guide with pointed legs, lanyard loop magazine, etc. The diamond checkered grips have 15 rows of checkering between the large diamonds, correct for a Colt. The recoil spring plug appears to be later than the pistol since it has the rounded punch-out. I do believe that the frame, slide, and barrel have been together for a long time as the internal wear patterns on the contact surfaces mirror one another perfectly. The finish on all parts is factory original and consistent throughout. There are a few handling marks, some holster & sharp edge wear, and some fading to the grip straps. There is also some minor freckling and some flaking of the finish, most notably on the slide. A previous owner has lightly marked his initials "PR" on the right tang of the frame. I'd grade the original blue finish at about 75%. The grips are in very nice shape with light wear, but no cracks or chips. The mechanics are in perfect working order. The bore rates about fair with strong rifling that is lightly pitted in the grooves (no deep pits and still shootable). The 2-tone lanyard loop magazine is in good condition with finish wear but free of dents or cracks. According to factory shipping records, this Colt 1911 was shipped to Rock Island Arsenal on January 21, 1913. Overall, a very good early Colt 1911!

Buyer pays $20.00 shipping. Your C&R License is acceptable for transfer if permitted in your area.
