Box, Paperwork & Accessories:
This set comes with the original Styrofoam rifle boxes with their cardboard sleeves, paperwork from Winchester and a dark walnut presentation case. The sleeves are white with "MATCHED SET OF ONE THOUSAND" marked on the top of the case in red and black lettering. The boxes have a separate lid with the bottom section fitted for these rifles. One end panel on each box has a label with the correct make, model, caliber and serial number of the corresponding rifle. The sleeves show only a few smudges and very light fraying on a few of the corners. The Styrofoam boxes are intact with no stains or wear marks on the inside. The boxes are in about Excellent condition. The paperwork consists of factory Owner Manuals that are serialized to the rifles. The case is a beautiful walnut case with a brass lock on the front, a dark felt covering on the bottom of the case and a padded interior lined with red velvet and fitted for these two rifles. A single key is included. The case shows a few dings and a light drag line on its lid and no marks on the interior of the case. Please see our pictures!! The case is in about Fine to Excellent condition.
This is a Winchester Matched “One of One Thousand” rifle set consisting of a Model 9422M rifle chambered in .,22 WMR and a Model 94 carbine chambered in .30-30 Win. The rifles have a high luster blued finish with the receiver, lever and forend nosecap finished in antique gold. The receivers are engraved with game scenes and the stock are fancy checkered walnut with Fleur-De-Lis patterns running through the checkering. The rifles are really beautiful, so please see our pictures. What is interesting is that neither rifle exhibits carbine traits: they both have crescent shaped buttplates and nosecaps instead of barrel bands. Yet, one is referred to as a Carbine by Winchester and denoted by the “C” in its serial number while the other has an “R” in the serial number. The Model 94 has a 24” barrel, which makes it a stretch of the imagination to be referred to as a carbine, and its barrel is longer than that on the 9422M. So, if they can’t both be rifles, why isn’t the 94 the rifle and the 9422M the carbine? Just something to think about when you have absolutely nothing else to do! The guns come with their original factory cardboard sleeved Styrofoam boxes and paperwork, and a beautiful walnut display case that holds both guns. Both guns are in about Fine Plus condition with 98% of their finish remaining. The bores are bright with sharp rifling, but the 9422M has spots of light erosion about 3” from the muzzle. This set encompasses the spirit of the West and those who hunt for their food in the wild, as well as the special quality that was put into the original “One of One Thousand”. We expect the price of these matched sets to continue to rise and Winchester collectors who don’t already own one are going to wish they picked this one up while they had the chance.
