The left side of the receiver is marked with the original serial number that ends with “2985”. The top of the bolt handle, bottom of the bolt, left side of the magazine and the trigger guard are all marked with the last 4 digits of the original serial number in electropencil. The left side of the butt is stamped with the last 4 digits of the original serial number. Many of the metal parts have small Russian proofs & stampings on them. The adjustment knob at the front of the gas tube is marked “1.2 1.3 1.5”. The buttplate is marked with a Tula Arsenal “star”. The butt & grip are marked with small Russian stampings. The magazine is marked “20”, “B” and with a number that does correlate to the serial number.

Barrel Length: Approximately 26 ¾ inches to the end of the muzzle break.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded post. The rear sight is a “U” notch blade assembly attached to a sliding escalator that is marked from “1 – 15”.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The refinished stock shows arsenal repairs around the top rear of the receiver. It is a two piece hardwood with a semi pistol grip, finger grooves, ventilated metal nose caps with sling loop, through bolt, sling loop under the butt and a metal butt plate. The refinished buttplate has some pin prick surface erosion showing through the new finish. The wood shows various scrapes & light scratches. The most prominent are on the left side of the forearm and right side below the receiver. Some areas of the finish are dulled by scuffs. The LOP measures 13 ¼ inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt plate. The stock rates in about Very Good to Fine overall condition, as refurbished.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The grooves are dark. The rifling is deep. There is erosion present; mostly in the grooves.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95+% of its metal finish, as refinished. The bolt carrier & top cover have scratches & pin prick surface erosion showing through the new finish. The barrel shows a few small scrapes & scratches. The screw heads show light use. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus condition, as refinished.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork& Accessories: The rifle comes with one refinished 10 round magazine. The magazine has scratches and surface erosion showing through the new finish. The new finish shows scrapes and a few small scratches. Overall it is in about Very Good Plus condition, as refinished.

Our Assessment: This Russian SVT 40 was made back in 1941 at the Tula Arsenal. The rifle still looks darn impressive for a 75 + year old service rifle. It has been refinished but retains many of the markings on the metal and wood. This is a nice looking rifle that can still put 7.62x54R down range as fast as you can pull the trigger.
Here are some basics from Wikipedia: “The Tokarev Self-loading Rifle, Model of 1940 or SVT-40 is a Soviet semi-automatic battle rifle. The SVT-40 saw widespread service during and after World War II. Intended to be the new service rifle of the Soviet Red Army, production was disrupted by the German invasion in 1941 resulting in a change back to the older Mosin–Nagant bolt-action rifle for the duration of WWII. After the war new rifles were adopted by the Soviet Union, such as the SKS and the AK-47.”

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This rifle is curio and relic eligible and can be transferred/sold in California.
