Seller's Description

Guns For Sale - Smith & Wesson S&W Number 2 2nd Model, #2 2nd Issue, Nickel 3.25 -- Single Action Spur Trigger Revolver, MFD 1877-1891

LSB#: 170615WF13

Make: Smith & Wesson

Model: Number 2 2nd Model, Model 2 2nd Issue

Serial Number: 7139

Year of Manufacture: 1877-1891

Caliber: .38 S&W

Action Type: Single Action Spur Trigger Revolver

Markings: The top of the barrel is marked with the S&W two line address and patents. The butt of the grip frame, rear of the cylinder, barrel visible when lifting the latch up and the barrel latch are marked with the serial number.

Barrel Length: 3.25”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a rounded blade pinned to the barrel. The rear sight is a “V” notched portion of the barrel latch

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are Plain S&W monogram hard rubber grips. The left grips is cracked and damaged, missing a chip. Regardless, the panel appears to be a replacement and not S&W. The right grip is intact. The checkering is worn. There are light dents to the grip panels. The grips rate in about poor overall condition as incomplete.

Type of Finish: Nickel

Finish Originality: Restored

Bore Condition: The bore is dark and the rifling is present but dull and rounded. There is light erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 80% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish remaining is surrounded by patches of surface erosion and frosting. There are light scratches though the finish on the surface. There is a heavy dragline on the cylinder. There are scattered light marks on the revolver as a whole. There is pitting under the finish. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action DOES NOT function correctly. The hammer does not cock, the cylinder chatters, but does not advance. We did not fire this handgun.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None

Our Assessment: This is a very early piece of firearm history, when self contained centerfire cartridges began storming the market, over rimfire, percussion and pinfire cartridges of the day. The gun looks good, it is a shame it doesn't function. It is a nice representation of an early cartridge firing revolver.

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This antique handgun can be sold in California. This handgun CANNOT be sold as a Private Party Transfer (PPT) at our Simi Valley shop. All cartridge firing handguns (even antiques) sold to a California resident must be DROS'd. This does not apply to out of state residents.
