JAPANESE ~ TYPE 2 PARATROOPER

WWII TAKEDOWN RIFLE

NICE SHAPE w/ FULL MUM...C&R OK!

NO RESERVE!! Here's one of the less common WWII Japanese rifles and a unique piece for the military collector. This is a Type 2 Paratrooper rifle. Manufactured at the Nagoya Army Arsenal in 1943, this rifle is designed to easily takedown into two halves. It utilizes a special wedge that when threaded into the rear reinforcing band, slides into a tapered groove beneath the barrel chamber and draws the two halves tight. Simple, but very effective. This rifle has matching serial numbered parts with the exception of the firing pin and the dust cover. It is important to note that the Type 2 rifle normally has two sets of numbers and this is perfectly correct. Like the standard issue Type 99 rifle, the last three digits of the serial number are found on the receiver, bolt and front band. This same number is also marked beneath the chamber of the barrel. Additionally, there is a second and completely different set of assembly numbers associated with the takedown components of the rifle. This separate assembly number ("94" on this rifle) is marked on the front and rear reinforcing bands, the rear portion of the barrel, front portion of the receiver, and on the takedown wedge. Overall condition is very good and the rifle is sound mechanically. The royal chrysanthemum (aka "Mum") property marking over the receiver is perfect, unmolested. The rear "anti-aircraft" sight is intact and in good working order. The metal shows some minor thinning/patina at the exposed portion of the barrel and buttplate but is otherwise in excellent shape and rates about 90% overall. The stocks are in good condition and have never been been sanded or refinished. There are some dents, scratches, and gouges but there are no cracks or repairs. The mechanics appear to be in perfect working order and the takedown system works perfectly. The bore is in very good shape and free of pitting. It comes with the original cleaning rod and an excellent condition tan canvas sling with quick detach clips. The Type 2 Paratrooper rifle was developed rather late in the war and production was limited. With only about 22,000 manufactured, the Type 2 is both an interesting and desirable addition to a WWII collection.
