Buyer Tip: If you're the High Bidder in an auction when it closes, don't assume you're the final High Bidder. Someone could outbid you in the final seconds of the auction if your Max Bid isn't high enough. You're not the high Bidder until you've been notified by email that you are. Seller's Description

Guns For Sale - Browning Arms Co. -- A-Bolt Composite Stalker l Series,

Browning A-Bolt Composite Stalker Series I .338 Win. Mag. cal.

This auction is for a Browning A-Bolt Composite Stalker, .338 Win. Mag. cal. (with some custom improvements and extras) in excellent (like NEW) condition. The Stalker I was introduced in 1985, made in Japan by Miroku and discontinued in 1993 with the introduction of the II Series.

It has a checkered black pistol grip classic-style stock which is injection-molded of composite graphite/fiberglass and includes sling swivel studs. Due to the close action/stock fit, one would expect to remove the barreled action and find the entire action area filled with glass bedding compound. Instead there are only two small amounts of bedding compound, in the recoil lug area and the front of the receiver. The action area has been so precisely molded to the action contour, so exact is the fit, that there’s no need for more bedding compound. It also includes a Bell & Carlson heavy duty rubber recoil pad. Drop at comb 0.625”, Drop at heel 0.50”.

The barrel is 24” tapered, free floated and finished in a gloss high luster blue as are the rest of the metal surfaces like the Medallion modes. This differs from the standard factory low luster matte blue normally used on the Stalker model. The barrel has no sights and is drilled and tapped for a scope mount and a one piece quick release scope mount is included (see photos) on this rifle. It is button rifled and recess crowned, Mag-na-ported (see photos) and has a 1:10 twist according to Brownings specifications. Another key feature is the fluted, anti-bind bolt, which has a non-rotating bolt sleeve with a rotating head and three locking lugs rather than the usual pair. This allows a short 60 degree bolt handle lift for fast cycling and increased scope clearance. It also has a recessed bolt face with a plunger ejector. The small, cleverly shaped, claw extractor is built into the front of one of the locking lugs. A gas escape port vents into the magazine well. The bolt knob is one of the highlights of the design. It is a smooth flattened circle in shape, canted at an ergonomic 30 degree angle. This knob fits the hand more naturally than any other design we have seen. There is also a streamlined shroud at the back of the bolt to keep escaping gas out of the shooter's face, as well as a cocking indicator. The bolt release is at the left rear of the receiver. Another good feature is a sliding shotgun-style safety mounted on the tang, which is the fastest and most convenient location. The safety locks the trigger and blocks the striker. It also locks the bolt closed, preventing inadvertent opening if snagged in the field. It has a classic Browning Gold plated trigger, extra wide and serrated. The chrome-plated, screw-adjustable trigger sear provides cleaner, crisper trigger pull.

Another great feature is the detachable box magazine (steel) which is attached to and concealed beneath a traditional hinged magazine floor plate (aluminum); this is a Browning patented design. The magazine may be loaded in place or detached for loading or replacement. The magazine floor plate release is a steel button in the front of the aluminum trigger guard. The A-Bolt’s magazine has two other unique features: The aluminum follower is tensioned by a scissors-type cartridge elevator instead of a normal “Z” spring which makes the cartridges ride up smooth and level without tipping or binding and is smooth and silent in use. And it incorporates a bullet tip protector. The box is blocked at the front to accommodate the proper cartridge length, but unlike other magazine blocks, this one has extensions running along the inside of the magazine to the cartridge shoulder. When the rifle recoils, the shoulders of the cartridges contact these extensions, preventing any further forward movement and preventing bullet tips from smashing into the front of the magazine. Protruding from the front of the trigger guard, the latch of the hinged floorplate is easy to operate, yet its spring is strong enough to resist accidental opening in the field. Magazine capacity is 3 rounds. OAL = ~44 ½”, LOP = ~13 1/2”, Weight = ~7 ½ lbs.

All of these features make this a very desirable rifle.

We do not disclose the Reserve on our “RESERVE AUCTIONS” because doing so defeats the purpose of the auction. Disclosing makes it a “Sale”, not an auction, much like a classified listing. Most of the firearms we offer at auction are on consignment with us from one of our clients. Our commitment to our clients is to obtain the highest fair market price possible for their firearms. Thus, we prefer the Reserve Auction and the “HAGGLE” feature offered by Auction Arms. About 50% of our sales are completed via the Haggle. In a Reserve auction if the high bidder does not reach the reserve buy to end the auction the high bidder or the seller may institute what Auction Arms calls a Haggle a one-on-one exchange between buyer and seller to try and come to a mutual agreement on a price. If you are not familiar with the Haggle process, click on Auction Arms “Help & Info” for complete details. For those items that are not on consignment we usually offer a convenient “Buy-It-Now” price.
