Sights / Optics: This shotgun is mounted with a steel bead front sight; the top of the rib is finely checkered for glare reduction.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a two piece walnut set. The forend has flank checkering, which shows a small amount of compression, the escutcheons sit just shy of flush to the wood. The wood shows a few scrape and compression marks, which mostly go unnoticed until close inspection. The butt stock has a flank checkered rounded pistol grip and is fit well for the 'short tang'. There are two un-repaired cracks at the upper tang area. The other surfaces show scrapes and dings. The grain of both stocks is very beautiful. Drop at comb is 1 1/2”, drop at heel is 2 1/2”. The LOP measures 13 1/8" from the front of the trigger to the end of the wood, a set of three black and one white spacers are installed after the stock was cut, the LOP measures 14 1/2" from the front of the gold-plated trigger to the back of the aftermarket Pachmayr brown rubber recoil pad, which has faint marks and is still supple, in Fine condition as not original. The stocks rate in about Good Plus overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: Factory Original
Bore Condition: The bores are semi-bright from some spots of persistent fowling, there is no erosion.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 81% of its metal finish. The receiver has handling rub wear, there is thinning on the barrel set from scattered marks and interaction with the forend when it slides for removal and replacement of the barrel set. The trigger guard has light patina and rubbing, some indexing took away gold plating on the trigger. There are a few tiny variations to the line of the rib, looking like light pressure marks caused this, it does not affect the sighting plane. There is wear on the upper tang from the selector from normal use. The screw head slots are highly serviceable with light tooling. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The shotgun features a single selective trigger and ejectors. The action closes with a satisfying ‘clunk’, indicative of FN’s legendary craftsmanship, resulting in zero movement between the barrel and frame. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None
Our Assessment: The Superposed was introduced in 1931 and was an instant success; the factory did not produce any of these shotguns during WWII but just after the war ended, the factory came roaring back to life, creating some of their best product to date. This Superposed was made in 1967 and still has plenty of life left in it. The action still functions correctly and closes with a satisfying “CLUNK”. With a 26" barrel set choked for Modified and Improved Cylinder, it is nice for hunting in dense brush where longer barrels would become bothersome. It would also do well for sporting clays. Please see our pictures and good luck.
CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This shotgun can be transferred in California.
