Guns For Sale - Springfield -- 1870 Trapdoor Saddlering Carbine

Extremely Rare Springfield Model 1870 Trapdoor Carbine. Only 341 of these carbines were manufactured as a prototype at the end of the Civil War, very few remain today. The characteristics of this model are that there is no serial number, the high arch breechblock is marked 1870/eagle head/crossed arrow/US. The Civil War lock plate is dated 1863 at the rear and the eagle/shield with U.S. Springfield is ahead of the hammer. It has a folding ladder rear sight, graduated to 900 yards. The Stock has a saddle ring bar with ring mounted on the left flat, and U.S. marked butt plate. CONDITION: very good action, 80% brown patina,20% blue, some pitting, crisp bore. The stock has a repaired crack in front of lock plate, otherwise in good condition. This Carbine is a great shooter, and has been in my family for over 100 yrs. Also have 2 original balloon head cartridges reloaded rounds and dies.
