Gun retains a pleasing patina overall with some light pitting here and there. The barrel date is no longer visible, however, the rest of the markings are still present. Stocks appear to have been lightly cleaned at some point. Good cartouche as well as the proper Wm WELCH NORFOLK CT stamp on the left side of the stock. Good working order. Nipple looks like it may have been replaced at some point. Bore has strong rifling. Ramrod looks to be of the 1864 Springfield style. There are some minor cracks in the wood (pictured). This is a solid, original Civil War contract musket. Dated 1862 on the lock. Some wood has chipped out at the bottom of the lock cavity. The sling swivel from the middle band is broken off. Lots of pictures.
