Sights / Optics: The front sight is a small blade, integral to the barrel rib. The rear sight is a square notch on top of the barrel latch.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered walnut. The smooth borders show no handling marks and the checkering shows extremely light wear with no mars. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.
Type of Finish: The alloy grip frame is polished. The sides of the barrel and the barrel latch have a brushed stainless finish, and the top of the barrel and the barrel flutes have a satin stainless finish.
Finish Originality: Factory Original
Bore Condition: The bores are gray with sharp rifling, as they came from the factory. There is no erosion in the bore, but the lands still show the factory tool marks and there are a few tiny spots of fouling in the grooves that didn't come out with a bronze brush.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 80% of its metal finish. There are a few light handling marks in the left side of the barrel set and frame. The barrel latch shows light pitting on the right side and at the left front, a tiny nick in its right top edge and dings at the rear of the serrations on both sides. There are several scratches and scuff marks in the backstrap. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The double action only trigger pull is heavy and long but does the job. There is a safety on the left side of the frame which is very easy to reach with the edge of the right thumb. The action opens with the top lever which also extracts the cartridges. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: American Derringer Co. has been making firearms since 1980, most famous for its Number One model and other compact, well made pistols. This is the DA38 over/under derringer in 9mm Parabellum. It has a satin and brushed stainless 3" barrels with an alloy grip frame and checkered walnut grips. The derringer is in about Fine condition with 90% of its metal finish remaining. There bores are gray, as they come from the factory, with sharp rifling. The 9mm chambering should be more than enough for most defense applications AND you have a follow up shot if needed. With some 9mm snake shot, you can control the ground in front of you on hikes. This is a very small pistol that can be carried just about anywhere and is perfect for concealed carry.

All cartridge firing handguns (even C&R's and antiques) sold to a California resident must be DROS'd. This does not apply to out of state residents.
