Seller's Description

Offered herein is a very fine and scarce FULL STOCK New England “Kentucky-Style”

rifle made by the well-known maker Silas Allen.

This is probably the most formidable longarm

we have encountered in all of our years in the business

from that famed maker. The heavy flintlock target

rifle has an octagon barrel of approximately 40.5".

The overall length is about 56". It weighs approximately 13lbs

and is approximately . 45 caliber WITH A RIFLED BORE. "Payson & Nurse" is markedon the lockplate and "S. ALLEN" on lock. It has a dovetailed rear notch flat band sight and brass front sight. Barrel is pinned.

The breech iron is filed out at top to more easily see the sights. The lockplate is line border engraved with some file decoration toward tail. Most furniture is brass English/New England style. Crescent buttplate has patchbox release button on end of patchbox

. Classic patchbox, as often used by Allen, has nicely filed exterior shape. Buttplate return has a nice extended finial. Sideplates are classically Allen with wheat stalk engraving with lozenge and comma shapes. The forend attaches to bbl with two side nails

through shaped silver escutcheons. Figured American walnut stock features right hand cheekpiece and uncheckered wrist. Hickory ramrod is held by octagonal

pipes with lined ends. CONDITION: Very Good.

Barrel is mixture of grey brown patina with no rust or pitting brown. Original flintlock. Underside of stock has a couple of minor hairline cracks which we feel do not detract from overall appearance. Fully operational. A BEAUTIFUL Massachusetts collectible from a famed gunmaker.
