Seller's Description

Your bidding antique rifle with a history I'm not sure of? I know Brown was the last to make the Ballards before Charles Daly and Marlin took over. However this one was put together as a Shutzen with a Marlin external extractor. Pictures show some of the wood alterations! Note: I will supply more pics at request. (I only know how to do 10 at a time) This is 44 rimfire originally with a makeshift center fire conversion. I don't believe it would take much to convert back? The barrel is 28" and 1.07 thick. Patch box was a strange addition? I'm stopping here and letting experts start talking! Thanx for looking. Barrel and breech are s/n'd on top (matching) also is stamped No. 44

Questions for Users
(Public)
Q:  Are you sure this is a center fire? I can see a musket nipple, which means it is a capped rifle. 12/05/2011
A:  I'm not sure just what this is now? I used the info from the guy I purchased from! He said he had it to xpert and claimed it could be coverted back to original! and now i'm not sure what he meant? There was some higher end guns of interest at this time of purchase. now that I'm looking through bore towards breech I see light through nipple and lots through the slot above! Somethings missing? Your right it almost appears to be nipple flash hole? DERIL 12/06/2011

Q:  FYI--This is a "dual Ignition" version. Very common in these models. The firing pin is missing. The plan was to shoot the rimfire case, then when finished, save the case and punch a small hole in the center of the base. The case is refilled with black powder and a bullet. At this point, a percussion cap can be put on the nipple and it will ignite the powder in the case. I've done this with a couple of mine and it works surprisingly well. Bruce 12/17/2011
A:  Thank you very much for this info! It explains a lot! 12/17/2011
