Description

Seller's Description:
This is an original WWII vintage M1 carbine manufactured by National Postal Meter. Has MPM,FJA and crossed cannons on stock cheek piece. Barrel by Marlin. Very nice finish. Added an after market spec. sling to give it the original look. I have 3 mags, marked U, MN, UU. The rifling in the barrel looks good, no rust or corrosion. Keep in mind this rifle is almost 70 years old, so it doesn't look brand new. It has all of the correct markings. See my reply to a question asked for the various production marks. This is a fine collectible and will make an outstanding addition to someone's collection.

  Questions from GunAuction.com Users...
(Public)
Q:  Hi, In the last picture there appears to be a large gouge behind the recoil plate, is this cracked, or missing wood? Are there any markings on the barrel, sights, or other hardware? Is this all original other than the sling? Lastly, can you give the serial number as, for example, 4395xxx? 06/20/2010
A:  Cody, Are you referring to the two striations just behind where the receiver is screwed into the stock? There are two, about 1" striations, not very deep. No missing wood or repairs visible. The stock may have been oiled, but I don't think it has ever been sanded. Looking it over closely, there are there are two other minor nicks on the stock just above the trigger area, looks like from being bumped. Keep in mind, this rifle is almost 70 years old. I got it from a friend several years ago who inherited it from his dad. The friend didn't know squat about rifles, so I know he didn't add anything to it.I can't guarantee it is all original, because I don't know M1 carbines as well as some, but it looks like it. Except for the sling. Markings;Barrel behind front sight has wavy lines and "Marlin" stamped on it. Midway down the barrel is a "P" Sling swivel has "UN" Receiver has 'US Carbine Cal. 30 M1" Rear of receiver "National Postal Meter" SN- 4080xxx Stock marking where rear sling attaches "Trimble TN" (?)last letter is not clear. The safety has "SN" on the button. Barrel band has "UI". during the war many companies were contributing components, so it is typical to have various manufacturer marks on the components. As near as I can tell, this looks like the real deal. I know the military sold off thousands of these rifles in the early 1960's. I've seen the newer ones made by Universal and some of the other companies. This is not one of those. I don't think you will be disappointed. You can return it unfired for a full refund, minus shipping within 10 days if you are not satisfied. I won't post the reply as public, but if others ask I will so I don't have to repeat this info every time. Hope that helps. Steve 06/20/2010
