You are looking at a Ruger Model 44 International Carbine semi-auto rifle, which is similar to the Standard Carbine except that this gun has a full-length Mannlicher style stock. These rifles were made up until 1971 and this particular one we have here was manufactured in 1966. The gun is chambered in the .44 Magnum caliber and utilizes a blowback action with a 4-shot tube magazine and 18-1/2" barrel with a rear folding sight. The bore on this particular Model 44 International is in excellent condition with excellent rifling. The top of the receiver and barrel are factory-drilled and tapped for a scope mount and mounted on this gun is a Marbles of Gladstone, MI "Game Getter" RU-20, one-piece see-thru mount (see photos).
The gun has it's original blue which is about 95% or better. There are a few small spots of pitting on top of the barrel in front of the rear sight and a couple of very small spots of rust on the left-side of the receiver at the rear (see photos). There's also a couple of thin scratches on top of the barrel in front of the rear sight and on top of the receiver at the rear with a few small wear marks from the bolt handle on the right-side of the receiver, other than all these minor imperfections from age, the metal on this Ruger is in very good condition.
As mentioned, the gun has a full-length Mannlicher style, uncheckered walnut pistol grip stock. The wood still has it's original finish, which shows a nice shine. There's a chip and some scuffs and scratches in the left-side of the stock, just behind the muzzle where it appears that the stock rubbed-up against something which caused these scrape marks. There's also a few dings and divots in the bottom of the stock with a couple of small gouges from the front sling swivel that are below the surface (see photos). There's numerous scratches and some spots of finish wear in the stock where the polyurethane is worn off with the majority of the scratches being on the surface and not too deep. There are no cracks in the stock. The majority of these handling marks mentioned are not too bad and it wouldn't be that difficult to restore this stock back like-new (see photos).
Please Note: Ruger does not recommend using reloaded, hand loaded or remanufactured cartridges or medium velocity ammunition in the Model 44 Carbine because it does not always reliably function the mechanism. Ruger does recommend using jacketed bullets from most of the leading ammunition manufacturers such as the Remington 240 grain JHP cartridge.
We did not test-fire the gun, but it appears to be completely functional and overall in excellent condition mechanically and good to very good in appearance. Serial #108574. STK. #15323.
If you're looking for a semi-auto brush gun, here it is! This one is ready to be taken to the field just the way it is or you could put some time into refinishing the stock and bring it back to original finish. These Mannlicher stocked 44 Carbines are very collectable so don't miss out on this one.
