DESCRIPTION

You're looking at a Parker-Hale Whitworth .451 caliber muzzle loading military target rifle. The top of the barrel is stamped "PARKER-HALE LTD. BIRMINGHAM ENGLAND" with "Sir Joseph Whitworths Rifling-451 Cal" in cursive on the left-side of the barrel at the rear. The lockplate is engraved "PARKER-HALE" in front of the hammer with a Crown stamped behind the hammer (see photos).

The rifle features a 36" tapered round barrel with Hexagon Whitworth rifling and a fullstock with a checkered wrist and forearm. The rifle comes with a ramrod and there are swivels for a sling mounted on the rifle. The 36" barrel and front and rear barrel bands are blue with the center barrel band showing a nice cranberry hue. The rifle has a brass forend cap, trigger guard and buttplate. Front and rear sights are blue with the front sight being a steel globe with a bead post and the rear sight has an elevator marked to 1000 yards. The hammer and lockplate are case color.

The rifle uses a special .451 hexagonal bullet from a special Whitworth mould. This 3-piece bullet mold is an optional accessory and is part of this auction. The 3-piece bullet mould purchased separately retails for $290.00. The rifle comes with four scrap, cast lead bullets. The rifle also comes with it's original cardboard shipping box with Styrofoam insert, loading and maintenance instructions and an old Dixie Gun Works Order form.

CONDITION:

The rifle is like-new in excellent condition and appears to be unfired. Blue is 100% on the barrel, sights and barrel bands. Case on the lockplate is also 100% with excellent color and crisp engraving. There are some light scuff marks and a spot where the blue is worn in the front and middle barrel bands on the left-side of the rifle. There's some light surface rust on the rear sight with a few small spots of pitting in the left-side of the barrel, below the front corner of the rear sight (see photos). The screw on the bolster is scratched and the slot is very slightly marred (see photos). There's also a few light scuff marks on both sides of the stock at the rear and a light scuff mark in the left-side of the stock, just in front of the rear lock screw. Other than these minor handling marks and imperfections, this rifle is like-new and in excellent condition (see photos).

The 3-piece bullet mould features ebony handles and is also in excellent condition with the bullet mould and handle that seals the bottom both marked with "46". The gun's cardboard shipping box is a bit rough with some tears and tattering with one of the ends on the top torn off and the other end also torn in the corner. The gun box is also water stained with some light damage from the water and there are a couple of holes in the top of the box. There's also some writing on the top of the box at one corner. The end tag has been re-taped to the box but the majority of the tag is still present on the box (see photos). The Styrofoam insert is in two pieces and also in rough condition (see photos). The loading and maintenance instructions have a crease down the center from being folded-over. Someone also scratched-out the weight of the cast bullet on the first page (looks like 345) and wrote in 485, otherwise the instructions are in good condition (see photos). Serial #15115.

In order to purchase this blackpowder firearm you MUST be at least 21 years of age and provide proof of age before this firearm can be shipped. This gun may be restricted by federal, state or local laws, please check local laws before bidding. An adult signature will be required upon delivery.

Here's your chance to own a Parker-Hale Whitworth rifle. These rifles retail for over $1400 new from Dixie Gun Works, Inc., and the bullet mould another $290. This one is complete with it's custom 3-piece bullet mould and is ready for shooting. Most people agree that the Whitworh was the hardest kicking, long-range muzzleloader available, capable of accurate shots exceeding 1000 yards. If you're into Civil War re-enactments this Whitworth .451 would make you the envy of the field, put your bid in today!
