Description

Seller's Description:
THE CURRENT 2008 (18TH EDITION) STANDARD CATALOG OF FIREARMS ON PAGE 758 GIVES AN ESTIMATED FAIR MARKET VALUE OF $850.00 FOR THIS MODEL IN "VERY GOOD" CONDITION, AND DOES NOT GIVE A VALUE AT ALL FOR ONE IN "EXCELLENT" CONDITION, AS THEY ARE SO RARE. PAYMENT PLAN AVAILABLE. TWO(2) PAYMENTS IN 30 DAYS, THREE(3) PAYMENTS IN 60 DAYS. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, OR ARE INTERESTED IN SOMETHING YOU DON'T SEE, PLEASE CALL ME AT 386-749-4104. THIS VERY RARE VARIATION OF A FULL NICKEL PLATED DOUBLE ACTION PROPRIETARY .32 M, H & CO. (ALSO .32 S&W) CALIBER BLACK POWDER CENTERFIRE CARTRIDGE SMALL FRAME MERWIN, HULBERT & CO. THIRD MODEL POCKET REVOLVER WITH 3 INCH ROUND RIBBED BARREL, 15/16 INCH LONG OPEN FLUTE FIVE(5) SHOT CYLINDER, KNURLED TIP FOLDING HAMMER SPUR AND RARE OVERSIZED CRESCENT SHAPED TRIGGER GUARD IS IN WONDERFUL "ANTIQUE EXCELLENT" CONDITION, BASED ON THE "OFFICIAL NRA ANTIQUE GUN GRADING GUIDE". IT ALSO HAS EXCELLENT SUCTION, A VERY DESIRABLE CONDITION ASPECT WHERE MERWINS ARE CONCERNED. MERWIN, HULBERT & CO. REVOLVERS ARE FINALLY BEGINNING TO GET THE RESPECT THEY SO RICHLY DESERVE FROM FIREARMS COLLECTORS! FOLLOWING COLT, REMINGTON AND SMITH & WESSON, THESE REVOLVERS WERE THE FOURTH MOST POPULAR REVOLVER TO BE CARRIED IN THE DAYS OF THE OLD WEST. THERE IS AN EXCELLENT ARTICLE WRITTEN BY NOTED OLD WEST GUNWRITER DENNIS ADLER REGARDING M, H & CO. POCKET PISTOLS IN AN ARTICLE ENTITLED "LAST CHANCE POCKET PISTOLS" ON PAGE 54 OF THE FALL 2006 ISSUE OF THE "GUNS OF THE OLD WEST" MAGAZINE, IN WHICH THE VIRTUES OF THESE HIGHLY CONCEALABLE AND EFFECTIVE LITTLE REVOLVERS ARE EXTOLLED. TO QUOTE DIRECTLY FROM THIS ARTICLE, "THEY WERE THE BEST OF THE WEST, OR SHOULD WE SAY, THE BEST OF THE VEST.". THIS IS HIGH PRAISE, INDEED! THE OUTSTANDING MACHINE WORK AND HIGHEST QUALITY HAND FITTING MAKES THESE REVOLVERS SOMETHING TO BE AMAZED AT EVEN TODAY. THIS REVOLVER WOULD MAKE A GREAT SMALL FRAME .32 CALIBER CENTERFIRE FIVE(5) SHOT POCKET MODEL REPRESENTATIVE ADDITION TO ANY EXISTING COLLECTION. IT WOULD BE A GREAT REVOLVER TO ADD TO THE COLLECTION OF THE BEGINNING COLLECTOR OF MERWIN, HULBERT & CO. FIREARMS. THIS REVOLVER HAS THE EXTREMELY HARD TO FIND SINGLE SCREW SIDEPLATE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FRAME! THERE IS SOME MODERATE FINISH LOSS AND PITTING TO THE FRAME AT THE BOTTOM REAR OF THE CYLINDER ON BOTH SIDES, AS CAN BE SEEN IN THE PICTURES BELOW. THERE IS ALSO SOME MODERATE FINISH LOSS IN ONE SMALL AREA AT THE FRONT OF THE CYLINDER ITSELF, AT THE BOTTOM FRONT OF THE BARREL AND ON THE TRIGGERGUARD. OVERALL, THIS REVOLVER RETAINS 80% PLUS ORIGINAL NICKEL FINISH AND IS IN EXCELLENT WORKING CONDITION, WITH THE BARREL, CYLINDER AND FRAME FITTING TIGHTLY TOGETHER AND THE TRIGGER/FOLDING HAMMER MECHANISM WORKING PROPERLY IN BOTH SINGLE AND DOUBLE ACTION MODE. THE TAKEDOWN/REASSEMBLY PROCESS IS FAST AND EASY, WITH EVERYTHING WORKING AS IT SHOULD, AND THE FIT IS TIGHT. THE SLIDING LOADING GATE WORKS PERFECTLY, WITH NO LOOSENESS OR PLAY. STAMPED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FRAME JUST ABOVE THE TRIGGER IS ".32 CAL.". THE ASSEMBLY NUMBER 12792 (ALSO CAN BE DESIGNATED AS "12" over "792" AND 12/792) IS STAMPED ON THE REAR OF THE CYLINDER, AT THE REAR OF THE BARREL BENEATH THE BREECH AND ON THE BUTT. THE TRIGGER ITSELF IS OF THE "CRESCENT MOON" SHAPE WITH A LARGE "ZIG-ZAG" TYPE TRIGGER WEB, WHICH IS AN EXTREMELY SCARCE VARIATION. THE SERIAL NUMBER "267" IS STAMPED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE GRIP FRAME BENEATH THE LEFT GRIP PANEL WHEN THE PANEL IS REMOVED FROM THE SQUARE BUTT "SAWHANDLE" TYPE GRIP FRAME. THE ORIGINAL CHECKERED BLACK PLASTIC GRIP PANELS ARE IN "NEAR MINT" CONDITION. THE GRIP PANELS HAVE THE CHECKERBOARD MEDALLION AT THE TOP AND THE DIAMOND ESCUTCHEON AROUND THE GRIP SCREW. THE NUMBER "267" IS SCRATCHED INSIDE THE RIGHT GRIP PANEL, WHICH MATCHES THE SERIAL NUMBER STAMPED ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE GRIP FRAME. THIS IS AN ALL MATCHING NUMBER REVOLVER, JUST AS IT LEFT THE FACTORY! BOTH THE HAMMER AND THE TRIGGER RETAIN ABOUT 90% ORIGINAL COLOR CASEHARDENING. THE KNURLED TIP FOLDING HAMMER IS STAMPED ON THE RIGHT SIDE "PAT.D JAN. 27, 85" AND STAMPED ON THE TOP IS THE NUMBER "10". ALL THE LETTERS OF THE MERWIN, HULBERT & CO. ADDRESS WITH PATENT DATES STAMPED ON THE TOP OF THE BARREL STRAP ARE CLEAR, SHARP AND DISTINCT. ALL FIVE(5) CHAMBERS OF THE CYLINDER ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, AS IS THE BORE, WHICH HAS VERY STRONG RIFLING AND NO ROUGHNESS. THIS REVOLVER APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN FIRED VERY LITTLE! HAVING BEEN MADE ABOUT 1887, THIS NEAT LITTLE POCKET REVOLVER WOULD HAVE BEEN PERFECT FOR USE IN THE OLD WEST AS A GAMBLERS' HIDEAWAY GUN, OR KEPT IN THE PURSE OF A "LADY OF THE EVENING", OR FOR MANY OTHER TYPES OF SELF DEFENSE USE. A PICTURE OF THIS REVOLVER, WHICH IS IDENTICAL IN EVERY WAY TO THIS REVOLVER, CAN BE FOUND ON PAGE 59 OF THE SECOND EDITION OF "THE STORY OF MERWIN, HULBERT & CO. FIREARMS" BY ART PHELPS. IT IS THE UPPER REVOLVER IN THE BOTTOM PICTURE. THIS BOOK IS THE CLASSIC REFERENCE FOR FIREARMS PRODUCED BY THIS COMPANY. $20.00 S&H AND INSURANCE. BANK CHECK OR MONEY ORDER ONLY. PAYMENT DUE WITHIN SEVEN(7) CALENDAR DAYS OF END OF AUCTION. THREE(3) DAY INSPECTION PERIOD BEGINNING WHEN THIS ITEM IS DELIVERED BASED ON THE DATE AND TIME ON THE ACTUAL DELIVERY CONFIRMATION RECEIPT. THIS REVOLVER MAY NOT BE DISASSEMBLED OR FIRED DURING THIS PERIOD. MAY ONLY BE RETURNED IF NOT AS DESCRIBED. THIS ANTIQUE REVOLVER IS OVER 115 YEARS OLD AND HAS BEEN USED. THERE IS NO WARRANTY, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, AS TO ITS' CONTINUING FUNCTIONALITY..... THIS REVOLVER IS AN ANTIQUE SO IT CAN BE SENT DIRECTLY TO THE WINNING BIDDER IN MOST STATES WITHOUT THE NEED OF A FFL HOLDER TO TRANSFER IT TO THE WINNING BIDDER, PER FEDERAL LAW. HOWEVER, SOME STATES' LAWS REQUIRE THAT EVEN ANTIQUE GUNS HAVE TO BE TRANSFERRED BY A FFL HOLDER. IT IS UP TO YOU TO KNOW THE REQUIREMENTS OF YOUR STATE AS TO WHETHER YOU CAN RECEIVE THIS ANTIQUE REVOLVER DIRECTLY OR WHETHER YOU WILL NEED TO FIND A FFL HOLDER TO LEGALLY TRANSFER IT TO YOU. A COPY OF YOUR STATE PICTURE ID SHOWING YOUR NAME, CURRENT ADDRESS AND THAT YOU ARE OVER 21 YEARS OF AGE IS REQUIRED, ALONG WITH A SIGNED STATEMENT THAT YOU CAN LAWFULLY OWN THIS ANTIQUE FIREARM IN YOUR STATE. THIS REVOLVER IS BEING SOLD AS AN ANTIQUE AND HIGHLY DESIREABLE COLLECTABLE FIREARM. AS WITH ALL ANTIQUE OR OTHER USED FIREARMS, THIS REVOLVER SHOULD BE EXAMINED BY A PROFESSIONAL GUNSMITH TO DETERMINE WHETHER IT IS ACTUALLY SAFE TO FIRE. WARNING-THIS REVOLVER SHOULD ONLY BE FIRED USING BLACK POWDER LOADED CARTRIDGES IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT FIRING IT. AFTER BEING DETERMINED TO BE SAFE TO FIRE BY A COMPETENT GUNSMITH, THIS REVOLVER WOULD BE GREAT FOR THOSE COWBOY ACTION SHOOTING POCKET PISTOL SIDE MATCHES. YOU JUST COULD NOT BE MORE AUTHENTIC IN YOUR CHOICE OF FIREARMS!
