Description

Seller's Description:

This old single shot break open shotgun is marked on the left side of the receiver/frame; “HIBBARD” and on the right side MODEL W H. The barrel is marked 12 GA CHOKE. It was made by Crescent F. A. Co., Norwich, Connecticut for Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett& Co. of Chicago. Crescent began making inexpensive single & double-barrel shotguns beginning in about 1892. H&D Folsom of New York City, large importers and distributors of firearms and sporting goods, acquired Crescent F. A. Co., so they could add an American-made sidelock hammer side-by-side to their line of imported guns. Large quantities of these so called “Hardware Guns” were made and marketed under various brand names, which included Folsom’s house brand “American Gun Company of NY.” In 1922 the Crescent brand replaced the American Gun Co. brand and in 1930 J. Stevens Arms Co. Div. of Savage Arms Corp. acquired the company. It was merged with Davis-Warner Arms Co. (successor to N. R. Davis & Sons Co.) and became the Crescent-Davis Arms Corp. In 1932 operations were moved to the J. Stevens factory in Springfield Mass. Crescent-Davis guns were in the Stevens catalog until 1941.

This exposed hammer single-shot has a 2 ¾” 12 ga. chamber. Mechanically this old gun is in very good condition, tight and functional, and the bore is still shinny, no rust or pits. Unfortunately the 32-inch barrel is bulged about 4 ½ inches from the muzzle. The frame was originally nickel-plated but most of that finish is gone. It has brown patina and surface rust on the frame and barrel and the barrel was rusted and pitted on about ½ the length from the middle to the end on the right side. The barrel has been sanded and so has the right side of the receiver. The walnut stock is dinged up and has a repairable crack as well as a chip out of it just behind the tang. The butt-plate toe is chipped out. These guns were made in barrel lengths of 26”, 28”, 30” & 32” so it could be shortened or the bulge could be rolled out and the gun restored. It’s a project gun or a wall hanger.

Marked Model H W on right side of frame.

Barrel sanded. Rust pits on right side.

Marked HIBBARD on left side of frame.

Serial number 45519.

Chip out of butt stalk just behind the tang.

Marked 12 GA CHOKE on top of barrel.

Serial number 45519.

Chamber & Bore clean and shinny, no rust or pits.

Serial number 45519.

Repairable crack in butt stock.

Butt plate toe chipped off.

Attention Bidders: A word about our auctions………………we do not disclose our Reserve on a “RESERVE AUCTION.” The reason is simple, disclosing the Reserve defeats the purpose of the Reserve auction. Disclosing makes it a “Sale,” for that bidder not an auction, much like a Basic Auction on Auction Arms where the minimum selling price is listed for all bidders to see. We prefer the Reserve Auction and the “HAGGLE” feature offered by Auction Arms. About 40% of our sales are completed via the Haggle. In the Reserve auction you are not necessarily bidding to hit the reserve but to be the high bidder. That is when the Haggle begins. If you are not familiar with the Haggle process click on: Help & Info Often the Reserve is the price the Seller would like to get but is not necessarily the minimum price the Seller may be willing to accept. We hope this explains why we don’t disclose.

You are bidding on a HIBBARD 12 ga. Single Shot Shotgun. Buyer pays shipping that includes packaging (via UPS Ground Insured) est. approx. $22.00 – $30.00 (varies based on total packaged weight, UPS fuel adder, your address & insurance, based on selling price). Payment can be by money order, cashier’s check or personal check (which will need to clear before shipping & thus delays shipment by about 10 days). Know your local laws before bidding, especially if you are a resident of CA, DC, NY, NJ, MA, HA. We will ship only to a licensed FFL or C&R Dealer (no C&R in California must be to an FFL).
