Questions from GunAuction.com Users...
T/C used two different types of rifling on their 54's. I have a very early Renegade in a 54 cal (serial # 1xxx and I bought it new too) and it has very deep grooves and I have come to find over the years does best with thickly patched RB's. (and let me tell you that a 54 RB's performance on game in field even at some range defies the ballistic charts, it is extremely deadly even at 100 yard or a bit more) Sometime later in production (I am not sure when) they went to a shallower groove that does better with Minni's. What version do you have? They both had a 1/48 twist. The deep groves are about .014 deep and shallow about .006 or .007. I am possible looking for a shallow grove model to go with my deep groove one so I have one gun sighted in for RB's and another for minni's. If you could mic the bore it would help here. BTW, I am a traditional shooter and would not dream of using a inline or a sabot.
John goodevening. I've have a 50 caliber T/C Hawkins just like this one that I got back in the early 1970's and have shot several deer with it with patched round ball one large buck was taken at a little over 110 yards. I took a picture of the muzzle end of this rifle and added the picture, It's at the end. I hope that it answers your question....Thanks Paul
