Here is a very unusual rifle. This is a very early production, STANDARD ARMS CO. MODEL M, with 25 inch bbl, pump action/autoloader in 30 REMINGTON caliber. This rifle was made in WILMINGTON, DE. The STANDARD ARMS CO opened in September 1909 and folded in 1912. The company re started in 1913 as the STANDARD ARMS MFG CO and folded again in April 1914. Approximately 5000 rifles were manufactured at the orginal plant. As many as 2200 additional rifles were assembled from left over parts by Numrich. This one has a serial number of 179 so it is very early production, probably made in September 1909. This was the first gas operated semi auto rifle produced in the US. The rifle can be used as a pump action, or by opening the gas port it will function as a gas operated semi auto. These rifles were noted for their ornately cast brass forends and butt plates. This rifle is 100% original and not refinished. The only alteration is the addition of sling swivels. The wood is excellent and retains virtually 100% original finish. I would rate the metal at 98% with with most wear being caused by the slide handle. The markings are all sharp and clear. This is an exceptional condition example of a fine and early American sporting rifle.
