Marlin Model 17S Pump Riot Shotgun
That's right, this is a Marlin pump shotgun, Model 17S, in 12 gauge, 2 3/4 " shells. Marlin called this model a "riot gun", and it certainly fills the bill. This model was only manufactured for two years, 1906-08, and are rare in good firing condition.
Both the metal finish, the wood and the wood finish are all original. The metal finish has minor wear, scratches and small dings, but no rust or pitting anywhere. The wood is excellent for a shotgun this old, and has only minor scratches, dings and dents, but absolutely no cracks, gouges or other bad injuries.
The original finish is very good, at least 80+% if not more. The barrel is 20" and has the original rifle style sights. The bore is excellent. The rear sight is a leaf with elevator, and the front sight is a ramp/bead style. Originally these came only with a fixed cylinder choke. I had this one professionally threaded to accept standard flush-fit choke tubes, and it has a Modified choke tube installed that comes with the shotgun, and I'll also throw in the leather sling.
It is pump action, side ejection, holds 6 rounds, and has an exposed hammer with a half-cock safety that functions AOK. The shotgun fires and functions AOK, but since it's celebrating its 100th birthday, it should be inspected by a qualified gunsmith. This is a great old shotgun, and quite a conversation piece.
