Description

Seller's Description:
Reserve is $350.00. Item for auction is a Arisaka Type 38 Rifle that was converted by the Thai/Siamese government. The conversion was made post WW2. The rifle was reworked to cosmetically appear as a U.S. M-1 Carbine. This was done so the rifle could be used as a trainer because the Thai Gov't was being supplied with U.S. weapons. It is also believed that these weapons were also utilized by the Thai National Police. The original Japanese stock was shortened and reworked to appear as an M-1 stock. There is a cut-out in the buttstock that utilized an oiler to hold the sling in place similar to the U.S. M-1. The sling is also a copy of the U.S. 1950s style M-1 sling with brass snap catch. All the Japanese proof and numbers were removed. There is still a bit of the Kokura Arsenal mark on the receiver. The National Thai crest has been stamped into the receiver ring. Metal finish is excellent. Bore and chamber (6.5 Jap) are very good+ The rear site was cut and rewelded to carbine configuration. The stock is in excellent condition. This is a very interesting rifle and is quite rare in any condition. Thai conversions are covered in Honeycutt's Military Rifles of Japan. There are pictures of other rifles, but not this one. A must for the serious Imperial Japanese collector. Sold to C&R/FFL. Winning bid plus $25.00 Priority Mail. Payable by Postal M.O. C&R/FFL to be signed in blue ink. **In pic # 2, the "thing" sticking out behind the bolt is a screwdriver I used to pose the rifle**
