Description

Seller's Description:
LSB#: 120419KT03

Make: Remington

Model: Sportsman 48

Serial Number: 3548731

Year of Manufacture: 1954 . Barrel code “CA”.

Caliber: 16 gauge

Action Type: Semi-auto Shotgun

Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked, “16 GA For 2 ¾ or Shorter Shells”, “CA”, “Mod.” The left side of the receiver is marked, “Remington / Sportsman 48” followed by the Serial Number, “3548731”. The right side of the barrel is stamped, “Remington Arms Co Inc., Ilion, N.Y. Made In U.S.A. / Patent No. 2,278,589 Others Pending.”

Barrel Length: 28”

Choke: Modified

Sights / Optics: This shotgun is mounted with a striated groove on the receiver, and a ramp-mounted bead on the barrel.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are varnished wood, with hand checkering on the forend and grip. There is a plastic pistol grip cap, and a recoil pad fitted, also, some folk carving of a bird on the right side of the stock. The stocks show very minor wear from modest use and handling, and are free of chips or splits. Please see the attached photos. The LOP measures 14 ½ inches. The stocks rate in about Good overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mirror bright. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 88% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows minor wear. There are no significant scrapes or scratches. The Screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear and sharp. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly; the bolt retracts, the safety functions, and the trigger trips the striker. We have not fired this shotgun.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None

Our Assessment: The Remington Sportsman 48 was the first shotgun introduced by Remington, post WWII. This is an nice shotgun, the blued steel and wood precursor to the long-running 1100 series. This is a nice one, in really nice condition; chambered in “Sweet 16” gauge, for a bit less recoil and blast, but with plenty of thump for those long shots. This is a great artifact of the great age of American manufacturing, when solid wood and good steel made firearms that were meant to last a lifetime.

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This shotgun can transferred in California and is C&R eligible.
