Action Type: Top Break, Double Action Revolver

Markings: The left side of the frame is maked “ALC”, the right side of the frame is marked “2493” with a star over “E” proof mark. The left side of the barrel is marked “12th Feb.1901.”. The right side of the barrel is marked “Presented to A. Wands / From A Few Friends”. There is a crown over “R” and a star over “E” proof mark ahead of the cylinder. The back of the cylinder is marked star over “E” and crown over “ELG” in an oval. There is an “OA” and another two letters that cannot be read on the left grip frame, and “C” or “U”, on the right grip frame.

Barrel Length: 3 ¼”

Sights / Optics: This revolver is mounted with a blade front sight and a notch in the latch rear sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are hard rubber checkered with the “Iver Johnson” checkerboard logo and are likely NOT original to this revolver. The checkering is sharp. There are no chips or losses. The grips rate in about Good + overall condition.

Type of Finish: Nickel

Finish Originality: All Original

Bore Condition: The bore is gray and the rifling is sharp and deep. There is erosion in the lands and perhaps some minor pitting near the muzzle.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 50% of its metal finish. There is flaking on the cylinder and on the right side of the frame. There are tool marks on both sides of the latch. There are a couple of heavy marks on the top of the barrel and the latch. Please see the pictures for a better assessment of condition. The Screw heads show use and disfiguration. The markings are mostly clear. Overall, this revolver rates in about Fair condition.

Mechanics: The action is not functioning correctly. The hammer cocks but does not release in one motion. If the trigger is held back after the hammer is cocked it can be rolled forward with your thumb. The latch mechanism is very tight and shows some deformation.

Our Assessment: This is an interestingly marked Belgian revolver which is a copy of the Iver Johnson revolvers popular at the same time. We found an “A. Wands” in the 1891 census but could find no other details. This will make a nice addition to an early revolver collection and certainly warrants further research.

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This revolver can be transferred in California and is C&R eligible and can be transferred to a California resident as a private party transaction (PPT) at our shop in Simi Valley./

If you are in Southern California, you are welcome to pick your item up and complete the transfer at our shop in Simi Valley (M-F, 8-5).

This gun can only be shipped to an FFL or C&R, and it will be shipped from an FFL. It is your responsibility to ensure that the gun is legal to own and receive in your area. If you would like to be notified when we receive your payment, please obtain a tracking number from your carrier. We receive about 40 checks a day and do not have the staff required to email everyone when we receive checks.

Payment:

Full payment on non-layaway items is required within 14 days. We accept Cashiers Checks, Money Orders, Cash and Personal Checks. No Credit Cards or electronic payments are accepted. To help us properly apply your payment, please indicate what item you have purchased when payment and/or FFL are sent. If you would like to be notified when we receive your payment, please obtain a tracking number from your carrier. We receive about 40 checks a day and do not have the staff required to email everyone when we receive checks.

CA Sales tax applies to CA buyers (7.25%).

Layaways are offered on all items, requiring a 20% non refundable down payment within 7 days of the auction’s close and the balance within 60 days. We do not require prior notice to place an item on the layaway. No returns are accepted on layaway items and the item will be considered abandoned after 60 days.

Successful Bidder Instructions:

You will be invoiced by the morning following the sale. This invoice will include totals for the sale and all instructions.

If you win an item and are not willing or able to complete the sale, you will be liable for 5% of the sale price.
