Description

Seller's Description:
LSB#: 111202LM25

Make: Ruger

Model: Old Army

Serial Number: 140-03973

Year of Manufacture: 1972. This is a first year of production for this gun.

Caliber: .44 Cap and Ball

Action Type: Single Action Percussion Revolver

Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “Sturm, Ruger & Co. Inc., Southport Conn. U.S.A.”. The left side of the frame is marked “Ruger Old Army” and the right side has the serial number.

Barrel Length: 7 ½”

Sights / Optics: The gun is mounted with a raised blade front sight and Ruger adjustable rear sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are wood with Ruger medallions. The grips show just a few minor nicks from use. The grips rate in about fine overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: All Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is some minor fouling but no apparent erosion.

Overall Condition: This gun retains about 70% of its metal finish. The cylinder has turned “brownish” and shows some discoloration and surface frosting, as does the hammer. The ram rod has some finish loss. There is smooth metal, but some finish loss on the right side of the trigger guard. There are some nicks on the left side of the frame, at the ramrod and a few small spots of pinprick erosion on the right side of the frame at the ramrod. The screw heads are sharp and undamaged. The markings are clear. Overall, this gun rates in about Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this gun. The ramrod removal screw is very tight and we did not remove it.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None. This gun is from the collection of Medal Of Honor Recipient, Lewis Millett. A certificate stating this and listing the gun by serial number will be included.

Our Assessment: This is a first year production Ruger, which may not have meant anything 20 years ago, but with Ruger’s finally entering their collecting prime, should be enticing the the collector. This gun started the revolution of returning to cap and ball percussion revolvers, with a quality built firearm, far superior to anything else available – including the Colts! Those who compete with percussion guns covet these old Rugers. This is a fun gun to shoot. They don’t make them anymore. . This gun is from the collection of Medal Of Honor Recipient, Lewis Millett. A certificate stating this and listing the gun by serial number will be included.

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This gun can be sold to anyone 18 years of age with valid ID. This handgun is classified as an antique.
