Description

Seller's Description:
LSB#: 110730TC1

Make: Colt

Model: 1911, U.S. Army

Serial Number: 284246

Year of Manufacture: 1918

Caliber: .45 ACP

Action Type: Semi Auto Pistol

Markings: The right side of the slide is marked "Model Of 1911 U.S. Army". The left side of the slide is marked "Patented Apr. 20 1897. Sept. 9 1902 / Dec. 19 1905. Feb. 14 1911. Aug. 19. 1913 / Colt's Pt. F.A. Mfg. Co. / Hartford, CT U.S.A.". The left side of the frame is marked "United States Property". The JM proof mark is above the magazine release. The serial number is on the right side of the frame. The top of the frame, under the slide is marked "*", "T" and "G". The underside of the slide is marked "B", "B", "4", "3" and "u". The barrel is marked "PX-1 / S, P".

Barrel Length: 5"

Sights / Optics: The gun is mounted with a blade front sight and a dovetail set rear sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock(s) is/are checkered "Double Diamond" grips. The grips are well worn, but sound and free of splits or cracks.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The rifling is far better than the exterior. The bore is almost mirror and the rifling is still reasonably sharp. There is no visible erosion.

Overall Condition: This gun retains about 10% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows much finish loss from and use. Blue only remains in protected areas. There are a few surface marks and nicks, no real pitting and only slight surface frosting can be seen. The metal is quite good. The right side slide serrations show a nick at the top edge. The Screw heads are serviceable and reasonably sharp. The markings are strong. Overall, this gun rates in about good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions as designed though we have not test fired the gun.

Box & Accessories: The gun comes with one unmarked but very old hand tooled holster. The leather is soft and the quality of construction and tooling is quite good. An unmarked 2-tome magazine is also included.

Our Assessment: What a great year to be collecting 1911's, being that this is the 100th anniversary. After 100 years, the design has been changed only a bit. This one is seen as it was produced in 1918, with all parts correct but for the later barrel. The 1911 was John Browning's crowning achievement, still being reproduced today by dozens of manufacturers, but there is only one Colt.

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This C&R pistol can be transferred in California or sold as a Private Party Transfer at our Simi Valley shop should the buyer prefer.
