	This auction is for a Colt Service Model Ace .22 rimfire semi-auto pistol.  Mechanically this gun functions well, bore is clean and finish is fine to Excellent. This Colt Service Model "ACE" serial number SM 31762 indicates it was manufactured between April - Sept. 1945 The original Colt ACE was .22 LR only. It had no frame mounted ejector and the slide was narrower and lower than the .45 slide as well as being heavily cut out inside to reduce weight. It was pure blowback, with no floating chamber. It was not too reliable and the very light recoil was not considered good for training those who would use the .45 on duty.  So Colt designed this version named the .22 LR caliber Service Model (SM) ACE.  Its slide is dimentionally the same as the .45 slide, but internally it has special machine cuts to allow use of the slide mounted ejector used with all the ACE and SM ACE pistols.  In order to work with the heavier slide, it uses a floating chamber that causes more recoil and makes it "kick" more like the .45.   The Colt Ace or Colt Service Model Ace was a firearm designed to allow inexpensive and low-recoil practice while maintaining the feel of the military Model 1911 pistol.   While the Colt 1911 was chambered in the powerful .45 ACP cartridge, the externally-similar Colt Ace was chambered for the far less powerful .22 LR cartridge.  Accordingly, military, police, or layman shooters could shoot the Ace without the recoil and expense of the 1911, but with similar ergonomics and sight picture. Except for the earliest models, the barrels of these guns are constructed with a hinged floating rear chamber that amplifies the recoil, cycling the heavy slide.   When field stripping the Ace, the recoil spring is removed after removing the slide. The ejector may be removed before removing the barrel and the floating chamber must be aligned vertically to remove the barrel from the slide. Once the barrel is removed, the floating chamber can be rotated and separated from the main barrel for cleaning. When the extractor is replaced into the barrel, the back of the extractor should slide into the rear slot of the gun. We offer a 7 day, no-shoot inspection period to guarantee your satisfaction.
