Seller's Description:
You are looking at a Savage Model 99, lever-action center-fire rifle. Based on the serial number this "99" was manufactured in 1951 or later. This Model 99 is chambered in .250-3000 SAVAGE and has a 24" barrel with factory front and rear sights mounted on the barrel. The bore is in excellent condition with crisp rifling and no pitting. The rifle has a brass rotary magazine that features a cartridge indicator that can be seen through a hole on the left-side of the receiver. The rifle has a checkered walnut forend and stock with swivel studs. The top of the receiver is factory-drilled for scope mounts (see photos).
Blue is original and is 95% or better, but starting to thin slightly on the edges and bottom of the receiver. There are a few spots of minor rust pitting and a spot where the blue is worn on the top of the receiver at the front scope base mounting holes (see photos). The blue is also worn on the top and bottom of the buttplate. There are a couple of small very-light spots of rust pitting in the bottom-left front corner of the receiver and a few spots of light rust on the steel buttplate. There are a few thin scratches in the receiver, with the most noticeable scratch being on the left-side of the receiver, otherwise the metal is in excellent condition with the lever retaining 98% of it's original case (see photos).
As mentioned the rifle has a checkered walnut pistol grip stock and checkered forend. The wood appears to have it's original satin finish which is in good condition. There are a few handling marks in the forend with a small chip in the bottom-left corner, near the rear. There's also a light scuff mark in the right-side of the forend at the front (see photos). The stock has a few more handling marks and scratches than the forend and there are several small divots in the bottom-side of the stock at the toe and just in front of the rear swivel stud. Other than these handling marks, the wood is really in good condition with no cracks (see photos).
Overall the gun is in excellent condition mechanically and very good to excellent in appearance. Serial #748036. STK. #13821.
