Thread Title: "Unreasonable payment requests, scam, or legit?"
(no avatar)

I just bid and won a nice S&W revolver, from a seller who has 0-0-0 feedback. When the auction ended I was contacted right away. Here are the initial proceedings:

Seller; "Thank you for purchasing my revolver....I can accept paypal or you can deposit cash directly to my Wells Fargo account."

Me; "I would like to send a money order, and include with payment a paper copy of the FFL for transfer"

Seller; "I am  moving to australia, (can't take guns), and staying in hotels for next two weeks before leaving. I am not able to receive mail reliably. Please pay electronically and scan and email FFL form."

Me; "Unfortunately, Paypal does not allow the transfer of funds for purchase of payment of firearms. I am unwilling to transfer funds directly into your (bank) account as it does not allow any kind of insurance or buyer protection."

Seller; "Do you have an attourney who could hold the funds in escrow until you take delivery?"

Me; "Unfortunately I do not."

Seller; "I am pretty flexible. If you prefer you can use my corporate account through paypal."

Now here's where it got really fishy. I googled the Sellers name and business, and it did come up, but there is a lot of litigation involved, it sounds like the seller is personally involved with a lot of legal issues and is either about to be sued or arrested, depending on which website you visit. So my question is, does this information merit me backing away from this deal? Or should I paypal this guy and hope the words "gun", "firearm", or "pistol" comes up in his item description?

Thank you for any help.

well, silicosys4, it goes to show you that your comment in another thraed: " for knowingly providing a venue for fraudulent activities" about this site's competitor also can apply to this one. any web site can fall victim to fraudulent activites by sellers AND buyers if they dont keep a super vigilant watch on who they let join their ranks. glad you didnt get burned and hope the management takes notice.

Got an email from an Administrator. The sellers account has been disabled and AA is ok with me walking away from this one. After past experiences I have had with another site, its good to see an auction site taking measures to protect both sellers and buyers. Thank you Mr. Wiederhold.

If you look at his feedback profile he has purchased several firearms in the last couple of weks; That would be seemingly conterditory to his claim that he is moving to Australia.

Run, don't walk away

Ummm, when -I- look at his feedback, he only signed on here 4/1, hasn't sold or purchased anything, and the account is not dis-abled.  In fact, the replacement auction now has a new "winning" bidder.
