Thread Title: "Changing "Reserve" auction to "Basic" once reserve is met."
(no avatar) I once suggested that Auction Arms should automatically change a Reserve auction to a Basic auction once the reserve price was met. I still believe this would enhance the number of bids on reserve auctions. We've talked about many of us not bidding on Reserve auctions because they seem to be a waste of time, so the suggestion is meant to increase the number of bidders. I personally believe it will. As a result, I am proposing it once again.

And there it is! YES! I do agree with your suggestion. It would bring interest back to a previously skipped-over auction.

I just don't know if there are other "Rule" differences between a RESERVE and a BASIC style auction that would also have to be changed.

Maybe just a new symbol like; RM for "Reserve Met" might do the trick. Then the casual scanner of auctions would see that it is a Reserve style, but now it's easy to see if ya can afford to bid or not.

Over on the big non-gun site, I describe a reserve auction as "bidding against the seller".

(no avatar) brainaxe: I looked at the Terms and Conditions and didn't read anything that would require the use of the "RM" that you suggested. If I read them properly, the terms mention differences in the Reserve style bidding only until the reserve is met. Once it has been met, "...proxy bidding kicks in, all bids are visible, and Max bids are kept hidden while proxy bids placed by the computer and bids beaten by a proxy bid are displayed". Also, once the reserve is met, the seller cannot pull the auction, which is the same as getting a bid on a basic auction.

Consequently, after the reserve is met, it appears the reserve auction becomes a basic auction in style and in conditions in force anyway. This is further testimony supporting the idea to change the red "R" to a blue "B" once the reserve is met. Thanks for your comments. They made me go back and do some more reading.

I disagree for the most part with the above posts. The reason why is if the seller list his auction as a reserve it should stay that was even if his price is met, and only one bidder is on the auction. This way sellers are discouraged from using reserve auctions.

I think the site policy is dictated by whether management is pro-seller or (as on eBay) anti-seller.

AIC:  The seller who lists his auction as a Reserve will still have to wait until the reserve is met before it changes to a Basic auction.  As a result, the same people who shyed away from them in the past will continue to do so in the future, myself included.  I won't look at it until it becomes a Basic auction.  Additionally, I certainly don't care if an auction started out as a Reserve and changed to a Basic.  If I decide to look at it, I'm not going to know the difference.

So far, I'm only a buyer on this site.  When I am scanning through the listings, I'm not looking to penalize sellers who list their auctions as Reserve auctions.  It's certainly their choice, but I'm just not interested in playing the game.  I don't get upset about it.  It's their lose.  However, if AA can increase the options available to me to consider buying, why not do it?  As a buyer, I may be missing in on some good deals just because an item is listed in a Reserve style.

I may be wrong, but I don't think adding this feature will encourage sellers to list more auctions in the Reserve style.  Maybe some of the major sellers could chime in on this.  Would you list more items as a Reserve if this suggestion was implemented?
