| (no avatar) | I feel that it's probably due to an election year, to where the wrong end result could mean an end to easy purchase of firearms and ammunition. People may be under the realization that this could happen and they should be getting while the getting is good. Not to mention the Supreme Court hearings coming up. I hope for the best however. Thanks for the information. |

I think firearms sales are always down in the summer months anyway. In colder weather people are purchasing more hunting guns as well as those gun shows which always do better in colder weather. However, with the threat of an Obama presidency sales should be ramping up this month. He will make Bill Clinton look like a gun lover. |

| (no avatar) | Our internet transfers in general are way up. Both on the receiving and shipping end. Some collectors are able to find guns they want but hadn't been able to find until now. There is more retail display space as well. Lots of Ganders,Cabela's,Sportsmans Warehouse new stores that are getting more firearms in the eyes of the public. Its not ALL political but some are just basic economics of more guns for sale. For some the bad economy is forcing them to sell more guns thus more guns offered for sale and some although fewer are upgrading and trading up. We are selling black guns and handguns but that has been a niche for us for 20 years. Our 50 bmg sales are strong too. Its a mixture for us. The recent 4 day power outage in our town increased defense minded 1st time buyers to step up and buy something for the home. Many of the people were well educated folks whose grandfathers taught them to shoot but are only now letting that experience influence them in a panic buying mode. JMHO |

ELDO-1--You wrote:"NOTE: The totals above indicate the number of background checks requested. I would like to know if the NICS system is doing its job thwarting criminals. Or just making the goodguys jump through an unnecessary hoop? Any thoughts? |

Brainax-July marked two years in my new location here in GA-The denied Checks must be retained for record,so i keep them in a separate file-know how many denied 4473's are in that file-----ONE(1).This is because,I think, people who know they can not own a firearm, know they will get denied,or possibally investigated for the mere attempt, thus get theirs elsewhere. |

| (no avatar) | Our volunteer fire departments have benefit raffles that include free sandwiches and beer with a low dollar entrance fee. People can win a firearm during these events purely by accident. I'd say 5-6% of these winners are denied when they try to pick up their winnings. Many of these guys are great people but long ago got into a pushing match or some small time trouble years ago and are now banned for life. Other than that its usually 8 or 9 per 1,000 on our denials. |

So it's just another gun law for the law abiding? Soon we will need a license to apply for a license to request a NICS check. By the way, is there any follow-up on people who are denied on the NICS? |

| (no avatar) | The follow up is sometimes slow. We do get a couple of people cuffed here on the spot per year. Usually its because there is an outstanding warrant. It could be for something big but the last couple were for unpaid fines from the magistrate and they forgot about it from years ago. We were inspected in late July and BATFE took all of our denial forms then. About 20% of the time a buyer gets denied and they ask us to fax the forms in. That is far more effecient then sending an agent out in person to get it. I don't personally have a problem with the current system as long as its not on downtime. |
