| (no avatar) | Best investment out there is brass rapped lead. If we get out of this one without needing lots of it it will be a miracle. |

Copper water pipe is great until the pinhole leaks start. When ours starting looking like a continuous line of of hose clamps I replaced it with PVC. I figured 16 hose clamps on about 8 ft of pipe was enough .... |

fith- Sounds like you got a bad batch of copper. - Pinholes can be from acidic water or poor copper. How old is the pipe? And it should be at least "M" tubing (red ink on pipe) or "L" tubing (blue ink on pipe, thicker). |

I'll go with PEX everytime. I can run 50 foot of that in less time thatn 16 ft of PVC or 8 ft of copper including the joints. |

brainaxe - The copper plumbing was the original in the house and as far as the age of it and the house goes, I suspect that it was the same thing as when I dug my first foxhole in the Corps - the dirt was new. I don't know about our water, other than it comes out of a well and has a lot of minerals in it since it crusts up shower heads and things like that pretty quickly, not to mention a few bouts I've had with kidney stones. It must be from the 6-cup pot of coffee I drink every morning, since I never drink water unless it has been boiled with some barley in it. |

| (no avatar) | ....I live in the "kidney stone belt" and you can trace 99% to those with wells versus city water (amazing, huh?). Got two brother-in-laws who live a couple miles away with wells. They have chronic KS problems and have for years. Most folks are now beginning to utilize bottled water for drinking/cooking or putting some kind of filter on that well water. Even though I have city water I have it tested once a year. JohnT |
