In most states, the buyer -is- legally obligated to pay the sales tax to his or her state. That said, most ignore that obligation. Some states are trying to recover as much of this lost revenue as they can, and in the case of sales going through another state regulated business (ie, and FFL), they require THEM to collect that sales tax (Calif and Washington State). |
