If the BATFE is "studying" the matter, you know without a doubt that a ban is probably in the offing:  http://www.ijreview.com/2012/05/6611-atf-to-ban-military-style-shotguns-but-taking-public-comments/

According to this site it ain't going to be a possibility. http://bunkerville.wordpress.com/2012/05/29/atf-seeks-ban-on-certain-shotguns/

The “Fiscal Year 2012 Agriculture, Commerce/Justice/Science (CJS) and Transportation/Housing/Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations bills”, also known as the “Mini-Bus”, was passed by Congress, and signed into law by President Obama on November 18, 2011.

The new law reads as follows:

SEC. 541. None of the funds made available by this Act may be used to pay the salaries or expenses of personnel to deny, or fail to act on, an application for the importation of any model of shotgun if–

(1) all other requirements of law with respect to the proposed importation are met; and
(2) no application for the importation of such model of shotgun, in the same configuration, had been denied by the Attorney General prior to January 1, 2011, on the basis that the shotgun was not particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes

belvedere - You can speak as eloquently as the greatest orator who ever lived simply by going into a voting booth and pulling a few levers.

As I pointed out in my previous post congress has taken steps to prevent the ATF from performing any such backdoor ban on shotguns. Obama himself signed the restriction into law back in 2011. Short of defying congress and opening itself up to a massive backlash they really have no options available to them other than to abandon the endeavor entirely.

Short of defying congress . . . . . . . . . . . . Obama would never do that.

they really have no options available to them other than to abandon the endeavor entirely. . . . . . . . . . .  For now.
