I have had fine results with .22 Shorts that I have used in the past. CCI brand mostly because of price. In close range shooting, the accuracy won't really matter. Hi velocity LR will have more variables to it's flight than the slower Short. I have even used the CB ammo (also CCI plastic box) and it's plenty strong enough for close squirrels. - I don't know the bullet weight on those. Also there is the Aguila Colibre, 20 grain PRIMER ONLY, no powder, that work fine for mice. Very quiet. But won't work a semi-auto. (too light for squirrel). What sort of varmint? And how close?

| (no avatar) | WALI; When I shoot shorts I shoot CCI's Under 50 yds. I think shorts are more accurate than L.R. but that is my opinion only. As far as noise level, there is not a big difference in the two. The short still has the crack to it that will alert noisy neighbors. I have also found that shorts tend to richochet more than L.R. causing the whistling sound. This will get the neighbors attention real quick. No matter which way the bullet went they will swear it went right by their head. |

Brain, I have all the types/brands you mention, and, being that I'm kinda a "prepper", I thought it would be prudent to set up this gun for "neighborhood" hunting, lol. Tons of squirrels, some rabbits, turtles, gators, ducks, otters, OWLS ect. And, if the economy goes down the toliet, there will be no season, or enforcement to worry about, only keeping the family fed. I have plenty of heavy iron for 2 legged invasive species. OR, Thanks for that info, thats good to know. |

New cartridge from CCI named `Quiet` 40 gr bullet @ 700fps. As quiet as CBs but much better penetration. Accuracy @ 25 yds was acceptable [1"] from 2 of the 3 rifles i shot it thru and astounding{1ragged hole] from my Win 52 sporter. The other 2 were ruger 10-22s. It did not work the actions on the 10-22s. axolotl |

I think one of the majors somewhere in the middle of the country has those 700 fps things on sale right now. |

Yeah John, I have. But, I need one that will work on 3-4 different guns ! Too pricey to buy several. Is there one that will work on 9mm pistol, down to .22? Assuming all bbls are threaded the same. I don't have much hands on with silencers, never needed one till now. I'll do some looking on the net. Thanks, WALI......... |

At 3.95 per box these ae just as quiet and a hell of a lot cheaper. my city police have been using CCI CB longs against stray animals for years, day and night. And they are effective to 25-30 yards on head shots on large dogs, These `Quiet` rounds should be even better. axolotl |
