Thread Title: "CZ Rim Fires, How accurate are they? No Really, Be honest about your experience."
AIC

After hearing all the hoopla about how great the CZ rim fire rifles are; SL ordered a CZ 452 varmint, 22LR, with 20.8" barrel, for me to evaluate and then put on the rack to sell.

Well guys I am not impressed and that is putting it mildly. The gun has a plastic magazine well, it bolts to the stock in just one place in the receiver, and the other in the barrel. The target that came with it shows a group of 1.6" center to center. I shot a few groups to see what the out of box accuracy was and could not get better than 2.5" at fifty, and this was using a machine rest. The magazine is plastic, costing maybe as much as $1.50 to make yet they retail for over $29. The wood to metal fit is one of the poorest I have ever seen on a factory gun. The dove tail pillar in the barrel is loose in the milled dove tailed slot, so no mater how tight to turn the stock bolts the action easily pivots side to side like a tree limb in a strong gusty wind. The trigger is adjustable but only for weight with no provision for take up or over travel.

Now for my questions: Do all CZ rim fire rifles; bolt the stock on with at least one bolt to the barrel? Are they all very poor fitting of metal and wood? The checkering is a blotch of cross overs and over runs and do they forget to checker all forearms?

Now for the things I liked and almost liked; The bolt locks up with two opposing lugs, making for a strong action, the barrel is threaded into the receiver, and it has generous groves for a scope mounts to grab onto.  The Safety is very positive but the dang this is backwards, you push it on and pull it off, requiring a shoulder dismount to disengage the safety.

I do not know anything about em but if AIC just did not like it ,and he did not get a lemon, then I would not consider one.

My best was a scoremaster from my youth, the quail on the run, I will always remember that shot.

AIC-Mine is a custom built on a 452 Varmint. It has a after market stock with a flat fore end, stock is bedded, has one of the trigger kits(about a 1-1/4#,no travel, crisp pull). We added a single shot adapter, which helped, keeps the bullets from smacking the feeding ramp and deforming.Shoots best with Wolf MT.It will shoot a cluster in one 3/8 hole at 50yds at 50 yds,if i do my part, but then again, so will my 10/22T with the wolf ammo.

I bought it from a friend at our club who couldn't get it to shoot, after the bedding and trigger job it does alright, but before my friend called it the CZ from Hell-now he wants to buy it back.

To show how ammo sensitive they are the three tight groups are Wolf Match and the bottom right is Federal Match. All are five shot groups.

I have never owned one but have shot next to them now this was a couple of years back and I was not impressed at all I had marlins and savages do better. I would think the dove tail being overcut would warrant sending it back it will never shoot tight until thats addressed. Just my thoughts not worth much. Quack

Quack-the next one i want is the Savage MKII TR in 22lr.They are neat and the accuracy reports, from other shooters forums are great.Had a Savage MK II HB with the laminated thumb hole stock, very, very accurate but i hated the low, flat, thumb hole stock,i sold it.I prefer a traditional or Tactical style stock with a cheek rest.

When it came to dishing out what CZ wants for their 452's i would never consider it-too many other good shooters out ther for the same,or less, money.I just got this one right is why i own a CZ.

Hart I have yet to find a thumbhole stock I liked it seems to me they make me twist the stock when squeeing the trigger. I have had off the rack Savages shoot as good as anything I have a Marlin in 17hmr and 22 they both shoot well but my most accurate is my old Remington Targetmaster single shot but I struggle seeing the open sites. AIC, one of the guys at the club has a 452 Varmit and he can't to get rid of it. I have a cheap butler creek conversion 10/22 and with wolf ammo, I shot his butt off at fifty yds. The ruger shot one ragged hole while the CZ spattered them all inside a 1 1/4". He also did not like the fit or feel. I never shot it myself but it looked clumsy.   Trap

Sold several 452`s over the years, I`ve never had a complaint about one yet, Several are still in use for metallic sillhuette at the local ranges, Talk is they are ammo sensetive. The older ones seem to have a better reputation. Ive never torn one down and know little about bedding, My 762x39 m527, shoots 1" @ 100 with the nasty old wolf ammo, axolotl
