Thread Title: "Somethin' to do 'til hunting season rolls around"
AA-bob Took a little tuna trip last month, 60 miles out of Half-moon Bay we tied into the Albacore. Thought I'd post a couple pics.

In years when the water wells up from the south and we can get 60 degree water temps, the albies show up.

These pics were taken when I was getting ready to clean the fish, trolling back to the barn. By the time I had two cleaned, BANG! we hooked into a triple. Got those in, set the gear and cleaned another one. BANG!! another triple!! Got those in the boat and told my buddy that was enough fish, I was going backwards on the cleaning!!

Ended up with 13 fish from 15 to 26 lbs.

Spent the next couple days smoking and canning fish. If you ever get a chance to fish for albacore, do it!! They are awesome fighters!

26 lb-er.

(no avatar) I tried smoking fish but couldn't puff on it hard enough to keep it lit.

5thcommjarhead Rob - You have to cut off the tail and make sure the mouth is open, then light it with a blowtorch.

Some nice fish there, Bob. If you ever get to the East Coast, we'll have to go out for some stripers, what we call rockfish in these hyar parts.

5thcommjarhead Just be careful not to inhale too many fumes, as brainaxe apparently has.

jessmoon, yep, albies are good eating!! My buddy and I always have a couple loins of fresh thin sliced sushi with wasabi and soy sauce after I'm through cleanin' 'em ! Chased with a couple Sierra Nevadas you just can't beat it at the end of a long day (normally at least a 16 hour escapade).

For grillin' can't beat a couple hour marinade in a bit of olive oil and crushed/chopped freah rosmary....YUM!!

Splittinhairs, if your ever out this way between July and October and the albies are runnin' let me know. We could have used a deck hand! LOL!!

5thcommjarhead,, hey, thanks for the invite, would love to stick some strippers (No, no, no I DID NOT say stripers, however...)with you sometime.

jessmoon YUM is right on the grilling with marinade. Not a sushi fan though as raw fish should be on the hook. But to each his own, ENJOY!

I'm not normally a big sushi fan either, but that fresh albacore is like butter only better.

5thcommjarhead The man eats sashimi (it ain't sushi w/o the rice) and drinks Sierra Nevada. I don't care what brainaxe says about you, Bob - yer alright.
