| (no avatar) | Yes I agree or if you are on that tight a budget that you can't afford back-up then extend all auctions that are interrupted by outages by 24 hours. It does an extreme dis-service to both the sellers and the buyers not to mention knocking the website out of addtional final value fees. My opinion is that it is very poor customer service |

Many sellers include the statement that if the AA site goes down in the closing hours of an auction, that the item will be relisted. As far as AA taking exception to that, I do not know, but I sure can offer MY two cents worth.......if the site went down at the close of one of MY auctions and I had that disclaimer included, I would certainly be upset and would want to relist the item. I guess it all boils down to whether AA is going to help it's sellers get the proper return from an auctioned item for the FULL term of the auction or is going to insist on it ending even if it has not fulfilled it's potential because of a glitch in AA's equipment. I guess it depends on how badly AA wants their fee and how quickly they need it. BUT, it does seem like bad business practice by AA to NOT extend the auction accordingly when it is THEIR system that went down at it's close. Just seems like the seller gets screwed through no fault of their own, and buyers don't get that last chance at an item they may have badly wanted, not to mention the loss in revenue for AA. |

JOES CUSTOM.... IF HE GETS A NEGATIVE I AM SURE AA WILL REMOVE IT DUE TO A PROBLEM ON THEIR END. I FOR ONE WILL STAND BEHIND HIM.. I HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME WHEN I FIRST STARTED SELLING ON SITE ALMOST TEN YEARS AGO. I DID GIVE IT TO THE BUYER AND TOOK A $150. LOSS PLUS AUCTION FEES. THE DAY AFTER AUCTION CLOSED I GOT 6 EMAILS FROM PEOPLE SAYING THEY WERE TRYING TO BID BUT SITE WAS NOT TAKING BIDS. ITS AFTER THAT I PUT THE SAYING IN IF AUCTION SITE GOES DOWN IN LAST 12 HOURS I CAN RELIST IT. IF THE SITE GOES DOWN THEN THE MGMT. OF THE SITE SHOULD BACK THE PERSON THAT THEY DO NOT TAKE A LOSS BECAUSE OF SITE GOING DOWN.. |

| (no avatar) | I'm just a buyer and not a seller on AA. However, if I was a seller, I would be bothered by having to honor a sale when the site went down. There is a lot of heavy consideration and active bidding within the last few minutes of most every auction. You could forget about the first 5 3/4 days of a 6 day auction. Those last few hours are the most critical. Consider this, AA even includes this statement for every listing: "Buyer Tip: If you're the High Bidder in an auction when it closes, don't assume you're the final High Bidder. Someone could outbid you in the final seconds of the auction if your Max Bid isn't high enough. You're not the High Bidder until you've been notified by email that you are. All Auctions are conducted in Pacific Standard Time." I would have to say that AA has a duty to allow sellers to relist, since by their own admission, even the last few seconds can change who the final High Bidder is for an auction. That final bidder could push the previous High Bidder's bid to the maximum plus the bid increment. That could be a lot of money for the seller. I feel the sellers should be protected by a phrase in the Terms and Conditions to cover system failures without having every seller protect themselves with disclaimers of their own which may or may not be enforceable because they may not include the proper wording. |

While we work very hard to keep "dial tone" up at all times, this is the internet and outages do occur. I think most of you will agree, over the years, this hard work has paid off. Compared to history, we have very, very few outages these days.
Just a reminder, we all signed up to the Terms and Conditions before using AuctionArms: Bid early, use a proxy to designate your maximum bid and short outages will not effect you. |
