Thread Title: "Mange"
Splittinhairs Shot at a Coyote the other day in my field, it didnt have any fur from the neck back(goofy lookin critter), does anyone know anything about mange? Does it kill them, is it contagios, can it be passed on to other domestic animals?

(no avatar) MANGE is caused by a mite eating the hair or feathers off an animal, the best treatment for domestic amerals is IVOMAC 1/4cc per 10# of body wt.

I know the bottle say hogs or cattle, but I have used it fo 50yrs. on my dogs, chickens, turkeys, It will kill all internal and external bugs or worms

I have used it on dogs that was covered with wood ticts lice and mites,in 3 or 4 days they are clear and begin to grow a slick coat

Hartwell Gun Years ago i found a live puppy among three other dead ones, deep in the woods, where some lowlife S%B dumped them. She was covered with mange so i went to the vet and he said that she was so eaten up with a severe type of mange it was best to put her down.I could not do it,so i bought some some medicine from the vet-it did nothing. My neighbor suggested to dip her in old motor oil from the crankcase, which i did as a last resort. Well, after a few dunkings "Elley May" recovered and lived seventeen healthy years without the mange ever coming back.

(no avatar) IT WAS THE SUFFER IN THE USED OIL. IT BURNS THEM LIKE ALCHOL ON AN OPEN WOUND.

brainaxe Extra Strength "DENEREX" has 2.5% coal-tar in it. Many coal-tar shampoos are availible at the grocery store or CVS. They smell like Creosote, but will work, and will be easyer to wash off than Motor Oil! YIKES! But I'm glad that worked for Elley May.

(no avatar) Yes, mange is contagious and can be passed on to other animals. You did the coyote a favor by shooting it as it is a painful death. If you don't want to do a favor for coyotes you still will be doing other critters a favor.

johnnysguns Instead of motor oil you can use lard mixed with powered sulfer. The dog will eventually lick itself clean. I've used it before with great results. I also use a horse wormer with ivermectin in it for my dogs. Like Joe says, it works great. Kills all internal and external parasites. Been using it for years. Much better and much cheaper than what the vets want to sell you.
