Thread Title: "What do you think?"
AuctionArmsCeo What do you think of the Auction Arms forums? We thought about this question for a long time before coming to the conclusion that we needed to write our own forum in-house. The problem is that integrating someone else's discussion software was just as complicated as writing it from scratch - and we had a few requirements that absolutely had to be met before we would have something like a forum at Auction Arms.

AuctionArmsCeo Our most important requirement was that the IDs that people used in the forum should also be the ID that people used on the site. For some of you folks who have been with us since the beginning, we actually tried using a third party piece of software that wasn't integrated with the security of Auction Arms - it required people to register again, and some unscrupulous folks were registering with the same nicknames as existing Auction Arms users, and then posing as those users. Writing our own form software neatly eliminated that....

We also wanted people's feedback to be included with their posts. We think that folks that you should accord more weight to the opinions of people who have a good reputation with us, or have bothered to reveal their actual identity by paying for a membership. Is that an accurate assumption?

I also personally didn't like the existing format the people were using for forums. I thought the tree format was outdated, and a throwback to the days when online software couldn't keep track of the person's last post read. Our software does keep track of what you last read, so there's no point in going back over stuff that you've already seen.

Anyway, let me know what you think about this - you're feedback is going to help us improve the software and make it easier for everyone to use. Thanks!

(no avatar) I find the feature that causes the auction line your mouse hovers over to suddenly change color to be very distracting. It actually slows down my ability to quickly scroll results on a page, because the "highlighting" of the lines as they pass under my mouse is simply distracting. You should seriously consider dropping this feature, it adds nothing to the experience and is disquieting at best. It's like trying to read a book with a flashing light somewhere on the page. It would also be nice to have a small photo preview with the listings, such as is done on eBay. Not necessary, but nice... since written descriptions aren't always very informative. Thanks for listening, Jim Peden vtgunguy Shoreham, Vermont

(no avatar) This auction is to hard to get a search mode, and I have yet to find out how to bid on an item, this is a test post for sure

AA-bob The search link is at the top of each page. To bid, you must first register.

(no avatar) Don't like this new photo system at all. When I go to an add I'm interested in and a photo is indicated, I want to see the picture. I think this new process of having to bring up each and evey photo individuallyis far too time consuming waiting for each photo to be downlaoded...... Go back to the old way where the picture is part of the add automatically!

Al1916. Thanks for the question/suggestion. Actually, you are in charge of how you display pictures. We took the Burger King approach on this so you can have it "your way".

Just make sure you are logged in and then click show pictures in an auction. That will reset you to the "old way" and if you later want to go with individual pictures click "Hide Pictures" in an auction.
